Do not give up guys, be persistent. I am 58yo and have been 26 years out of the software business. It took me about two years of practicing and two to five applications every few weeks to get hired as a full-stack dev in 2024. Tech stack: JS/TS, Angular, Stencil, PHP, Symfony, SQL.

Congrats! Did you just cold apply or did you get referrals? And what kinds of projects did you have on your portfolio?

@@rod6722 I have not put any large project onto my portfolio website, instead I opted for some small projects that solve common every day tasks. 1) Angular+TS+Firebase, address management with auth, statistics, geocoding, zip code API, localization. keyboard friendly navigation. 2) Vanilla JS ticket management, auth, Kanban, drag and drop from scratch (no libs) on desktop + mobile. 3) JS jump and run game, multiple levels, keyboard and touch, Progressive Web App. 4) oo PHP + JS Login System, email user verification, as a Web Component / custom HTML element. 5) oo PHP CSV - SQL import tool, arbitrarily structured CSV data, character set conversion, date conversion, column assignment, umlaut conversion, separator, enclosure, processing in chunks, etc. 6) Flight control system (C, STM32) + Ground station (JS, NW builder, jQuery) for helicopter drones, based off of the open source project INAV.

@@rod6722 I have just responded to job offers on commonly known job markets as well as social media. To fight age discrimination, remember, I am 58yo, I replaced my resume by a short profile highlighting >10 years of experience as a developer, >20 years as an entrepreneur, xx years regarding specific technologies, … without mentioning any specific dates.
