Absolutely, this song is a perfect reflection of that story, “See when times get hard, some good old boys turn to a life of sin” This meaning that the members of the gang such as Dutch, John, Arthur etc. couldn’t make any money because they had to live off the streets, so eventually they had to come together and rob banks, trains, and wagons to survive. “Were like Robin Hood, just twice as good but we can never go home again” This meaning that the gang were really good at robbing and thievery. However they could never leave that life style, even if they wanted to. Like John tried his hardest, but eventually it caught back up with him. “The sheriff and, the banker man came to push us off of our land.
