Thanks for the review! I will be getting one of these soon. The wife and I have been using a series of glass pour over coffee makers that both I and my (like father like son) "unintentionally ungentle" boy have managed to break. It's in my amazon cart! 😉

I like that a lot better then the adventure series all in one set. That thing is HUGE. I bought it years ago when it was one of the first travel presses. The only saving grace on it is the included pot. Not sure what I think of their lil pourover. I like the mesh gsi for what they are.

Great for Home use or at a Base Camp but super heavy for day-tripping or hiking. Needs a separate Kettle, Extra Large Water Bottle, Long-handled Spoon just to make it work. That's a lot of gear just to make Coffee. Very SINGLE PURPOSE use.

@@bunkyman8097 I actually use the JetBoil French press in a JetBoil mug and a Toaks 700mL mug. Lately I’ve been doing the Ken Rawls (sp?) cowboy method with cold water to make the grinds sink. It’s good!

@stevesummersell3068 I am familiar with the video about cowboy coffee. I've never made coffee that way but now I think I have to try it. My grandfather used to make his coffee using that method. I'll try anything to make a good cup of coffee!

@@bunkyman8097 It makes it less acidic and smoother. Also, the grinds really do sink to the bottom with the cold water.

How do you keep fluid from getting inside the lid. Or condensation

That's something I'm thinking about too. I broke the glass beaker in my Bodum French press for the third time and have no intention of buying a new beaker yet again. Another thing I hated about the Bodum is that water would get between the metal lid and its plastic liner in the dishwasher and take forever to evaporate. The only waterproof design I can think of is to make both the cap and the liner of metal, and run a metal tube between both holes, and weld it in 360 degrees on both ends. I don't know if Stanley does that or not. I'm thinking of calling both Stanley and Freiling to see if either brand has come up with anything like that.

The Stanley French press is great but they cut corners, went a little cheap on the construction. The plunger action is not smooth becasue there are no bearings or bushings in the lid; furthermore, and the lid is hollow, no vacuum seal. Lots of heat is lost through the lid. I bored out the holes in the lid, shot in insulation, drove in Nylon bushings into the top and bottom sheet metal of the lid. Now it is insulated and the action is smooth and quiet. The flimsy mesh filter lets grounds past. I bought a second 4.5" steel filter and ganged the two together. Yes, that's one additional item to clean, but the results are much better, coffee-wise.

What grind on your coffee did you use ? What kind of bearing would you put in the top ?
@paulh6591
@paulh6591 2 ай бұрын
@@brandonwilliams2431 I have a parts tray full of brass and nylon bushings, and chose a nylon one for quiet and insulation which was the perfect diameter of the rod so it would slide easily but have no play. then I drilled out the lid with the appropriate-sized bit so the fir would be snug. miny you, this means the little roll pin that serves to seal the hollw lid is now no longer there. I drilled it with a drill press so it is strictly vertical, and once the good fit was determined I sprayed weatherproof foam into the hollow lid for better insulation, and the bearing sealed the whole thing. I got generic 4.5 to 4.6mm Metal Filters for Bodum French Press as the second filter; slightly larger diameter than the original one, which nests nicely into the second one for a stiffer, better seal. For the grinder I've been using a Breville grider fthat I bought for my Rancilio espresso machine for over a decade (fine espresso grind) but for the French press I set it between the "peculator" and "French press" settings (which are coarser than drip grind" and grind up a batch which I keep in a mason jar, a two-week supply.

@Jason Vorhees, I was about to buy this and then I discovered the Secure French press. It is sharp looking, made in USA, makes 2 more ounces (not a big deal), and is $35 on Amazon (that is a big deal)! I chose that one instead. I am very happy with it. It came with 2 additional screens. they come in 3 sizes with 50oz being the largest. It is very sturdy and substantial and would be great at the campsite. Take a look, you will be happy if you purchase it.
