I was all excited about you using this technique before I realized you were doing it on plywood. As others have said, it works much better on hardboards (thanks to their inherent, strong grain.) It also looks better if you don't char it so much. Nevertheless, in your application, the extra-crispy option 😉with its overly dark tone does work well with the black fenders. So good on ya. 👍

first time i've seen the sugiban on plywood, it's usually on solid wood and the grain pops out when removing the burn heartwood. looks good though, I bet $5 when it starts to naturally lighten up she'll like it alot. PS - a woman that wears classic Vans is a keeper!

I thought you’d stain the hardware with some old used oil, but the shiny looks nice too.

Burning the wood to be dark will waterproof it.

With that technique you just char the surface of the wood. It will look like a train wreck if you burn it too much. Never seen it done on ply wood before, so I hope there are no voids under the top layer

Love your videos and really like that you are including Kelly, but please get her to tie her hair up. It really worries me that it could get caught in a drill etc.

You applied oil to one side of the wood and THEN torched the other side???
