I live in Saigon and consider myself extremely fortunate to be able to have freshly roasted Vietnamese coffee every morning and lunchtime by the Notre Dame cathedral

Unlike coffee varieties produced in VN that usually have a bitter acidic taste, Nguyen coffee has a sweet fruity aroma during the brewing process and a smooth taste that goes well with condensed milk. Best when brewing with coffee fin or French press. I have been happy to pay the premium price for Nguyen coffee after I found it by chance on Amazon a year ago.

I have never seen anything but Arabaca available in the local markets. I love coffee. I am going to start looking for this product.

It's a new and interesting take that Robusta beans can also be specialty coffe. Everybody likes arabica but they might be missing out on robusta. New methods will probably elevate the taste of robusta beans alot and I'm eager to see it happen.

@@NineDiamont I look at the label but buy what's cheap. Now I'm more educated. Tuna fish with "Product of China", on the other hand, does not enter my home. Very tiny print and may vary by brand, perhaps by supply. That's what worries me too.

BS!Any "espresso-mixture"contains a certain percentage of robusta!That's a must!

I’ve been to VN. Huge coffee culture there. Great coffee shops everywhere. Phin with burning incense lighted at table while waiting for Phin to drip. Very Zen.

Vietnamese coffee (and Vietnamese coffee culture) in mainland South East Asia are both, well known and accepted as the best! There's no comparison. How that has been largely unknown in the USA is unfathomable.

Thanks for breaking down “coffee”. Used to love Maxwells master blend, then over last decade, have stopped drinking ANY COFFEE! Found out the exclusion of Robusta beans! You all, nGuyen, many others has given me hope of getting up & happy to taste my coffee! Like simplicity of traditional phinn coffee. Thx😊

I read Robusta is more durable/drought resistant, so as climate change gets worse we'll see less Arabica and more Robusta beans.

It's in the tropics, so "den da" (black, iced) or "sua da" (with condensed milk and ice) are the most common ways which Vietnamese consume coffee. But there are plenty of third wave cafes nowadays, so the styles more familiar in the West are becoming more common, e.g. pour over.

Vietnam is one of the three largest coffee producers in the world - used to be second only to Brazil. Most is consumed in country or exported to other communist nations.

The one I tried was very corse and only so so... I don't like sweetness in my coffee, the Vietnamese coffee is not for cold brew. Cold brew takes away the bitterness of the coffee ☕

@@worldcitizeng6507 actually it also depends on where the robusta beans are grown, the processing method and the roast. I personally have tried cold brew with robusta beans from Kon Tum (Vietnam), honey processed and medium dark roast. Have to say it was surprisingly elegant. Still have hints of the typical chocolate and earthy fragrance from normal Robusta, but it also had some fruitiness in it, low acidity and very balanced taste.

More asians getting in on the coffee business or bakeries in USA. In the Boston area I have seen more places run by asians especially women in the last few years or so. It is arribica more then robusta.
