If they prosecuted abusers to the fullest extent of the law like they do the murder of abusers this wouldn't happen.

I agree - and given the trauma etc, the line "...from being the victim of a serious crime to the perpetrator of a worse one" doesn't sit right with me. Too often, survivors of abuse are treated like murderers anyway, with the media and the courts always focusing on how a conviction would ruin the abuser's future with nay a thought for the future that the survivor may have.

Had they done that (crime of passion defense), I'm sure the prosecutor would have wanted to see proof there actually WERE pictures and neither Jade nor her lawyers wanted that since there wasn't any. Honestly, the fact she took this to trial is astounding, which is kind of why there's so much weirdness with Jade's motive. This is one of those rare cases in which not only does the prosecution not need to establish a motive, but the defendant actually testified, meaning her narrarive wasn't challenged nearly as much as it would be otherwise.

Amazing how so many people bought into her story, well except for the jury. 48 hrs did a great job and people missed several points. Someone said she called a security firm but the fixer was not security and the person that recommended him certainly traveled in different circles to know this guy .One of the sites said she was doing drugs and that would put her in that circle Her lawyers said that several former boyfriends took the pictures. Now it may seem on the surface that it is ok because they are a boyfriend but who lets people take pics of you nude, especially with the internet and having a history of different ones.

@annoyedaussie3942 14 күн бұрын
@jamescrane7034 I say reasonable certainty because she really has no reason to lie about that and partners having intimate photos of each other is very common since digital photography. I don't believe Tom had any photos of her based on probability and the motive was something more usual. The police/prosecution had no reason to investigate whether or not that was her real motive because she was already making the case for them proving it's premeditated murder because she claimed to discover these photos on the computer when he was in hospital. I don't believe also because if a man chooses to keep naked images of ladies or teenagers they always keep it of many not just a single person. While I don't download anything I do watch porn sometimes and I certainly watch some variety.

Can't really blame her for the actions she took. But just having seen that the man who helped raise you and that you have been taking care of has naked pics of you since you were underage would have to do a number on your thought process that you can't approach from the mindset of someone who is calm, rational and reasonable. Was it still OK of her to have murdered him? Understandable but...no. I don't know if there were other charges but it's unfortunate in cases like this when the prosecution will only offer up one charge of murder one with no other options cause it prolly puts the jury in a bind. They probably sympathized with her and might have considered a lesser charger of murder two but they likely felt they could not let her go unpunished regardless of her reasons even if the charge was too high.

Before you make a claim of cp, the photos were ten years old, how old was Jade when she murdered the stepdad? Do the math. 28 is hardly a child. Still gross. But still no proof of the photos and her story makes zero sense about how he got them and how she found them. She's also proven herself many times to be a liar. I was a victim as a child, and in my view of she lied, which I believe wholeheartedly that she obviously did, she's the revolting one in every way.

As a victim of rape, I cannot feel sorry for the man. He may not have physically violated Jade, but he did mentally. Sometimes that can be worse than the actual act of rape. My rapist lived in the same town as I did and it was hard to not see him in public situations. I saw him a good number of times and he kept saying to me, "No hard feelings" for what he'd done to me. For me I'd more or less gotten over the physical violation, but the continued mental and emotional violation was just too much. I can understand Jade's reaction to seeing the photos. I cannot feel anything for the guy. He sort of brought it on himself. Jade's verdict shouldn't stand.

Being told we were asking for it, were dramatic, it happened along time ago and why are we still so upset. Its because you'll be hard pressed to find someone who believes you, even the people you love and trust will call you a liar, tell you you're being dramatic, that so and so is a good person or "they've never treated me badly". I'm so sorry you went through that, I experienced a really similar thing :( my sister and I were groomed by a very close family friend who lived with us when we were 13. he assaulted her during that time and there were photos as proof of what he did. but when I convinced her to tell the cops a couple years later, they didn't even bother questioning him. they just brushed us aside and let him walk free. and I was assaulted by someone close to me when I was a kid but I've never told anyone because I know no one would believe me. I wish that cases like this count as self defense. if he was bold enough to spy on his own daughter and take inappropriate pictures of her, he easily could've hurt her if she had confronted him. really the only way that sexual assault victims can get justice is to hurt/kill their abusers since the cops don't give a fuck about punishing them.

On one hand, I understand why she might have done it: when you see something that disgusting and humiliating about yourself, first thing you want to do is destroy it. On the other hand, this whole thing doesn't make much sense to me. Why hire a fixer? Why text him explicitly what you are doing? Why did the fixer back out if cleaning up after the murder is exactly what she hired him to do? Was there a life insurance for her stepdad and was she the beneficiary? If his health was declining fast, the usual lowly motivation for this murder is relief for herself. It's incredibly taxing for those who care for the disabled relatives, especially alcoholics with drug issues. It was super hard for her to take care of him, and discovering these pictures probably made her blood boil.

I was a child when one of my adult relatives sexually assaulted me, 7 or 8 at the oldest. My family wanted to avoid a scandal. So, they covered it and silenced me my whole life, even made me feel guilty for it. It happened so long ago, that even if I came out with it now, nothing would change. There is nothing left to show for it, only scars that are visible to no one but myself. CSA, really SA in general, is a wound that you keep for your entire life. While I know in my heart that Jade should have taken this to authorities, I can't hold her at fault for the way she felt. I can't say that I feel truly sorry for her victim. I understand that his loss caused his family grief regardless of his actions, but I just can't. Regardless of the way she handled it, Jade wouldn't have come out on the other side unscathed. The only difference is that now, she's going to have to shoulder that trauma behind bars, rather than in the comfort of loved ones that she could still trust. It's unfortunate for everyone involved. Thanks for your comment here…there are many people in a similar place , you’re not alone. For whatever solace that grants, I hope some, also know that I appreciated your honesty , and you couldn’t have put things any better when saying that she will now have to “shoulder the trauma” in prison, as , someone who also has a brother in prison knows, there is incredibly little therapy and healing going on in the for profit prison system in this country (US). It must have been incredibly murky to her at the time being the one so close to the violation and trauma , that this seemed like a better option , which is sad and, to me , somewhat surprising, I guess I wouldn’t know how I’d react until I were put in this situation but- I THINK , I would have gone the route of …not…killing someone…I was surprised by that move, for someone like jade with supposedly no past violent tendencies, to seemingly, very quickly, be moved to murder….well I think I probably wouldn’t have done the same thing.. Who knows…but you can tell me if I’m wrong- I’d think that is a pretty rare stance to take- and a pretty overcharged reactionary approach to desiring justice or even eye for an eye retribution….idk… violation of sexual assault vs violation of murder…I’m not a fan of either but…😮 Anyway if you read this far, thanks again and much love from Philadelphia!

Me neither. However if she really wanted to get at her father she could've done this completely differently. The problem is that her father wanted to "own" her. He was narcissistic at the very least. Sometimes with narcissistic men, their way of owning their female victim is by having some form of "ownership" of their body. This factor also plays on sexism, misogyny etc. By the father keeping those nasty photos of his daughter, in his twisted mind, that was his ownership of her. The best way to really make an individual like that pay, is by taking their power away. The only power that man really had was his access to the daughter and the pictures he had of her. What the daughter should've done was to first calm down. She then should've took her phone out and recorded everything she saw and narrated what took place. She should've confiscated the computer and any other electronics with her photos as evidence. She then should've ignored his calls and left him at the hospital. Technically he's still "sick" right? She then should've spoke with friends about it or who ever would be willing to listen. By doing that she would tarnish his image. She then should've went to the police about it. He more than likely would've done prison time because she had SO much evidence stacked against him. Finally she should've brung all of this to the attention of the family to tear his relationships with them a part. Whether the family turns against her, doesn't matter. She then should completely block the father and whoever backed him, out of her life. Her final goal should've been for her children to never discover what the father's face looks like. And if they do discover what he looks like, it will be an accident. That was how she was going to get the last laugh. Not by killing him and having people sympathize with him for being a victim of murder.

I think the problem is that we don't get Tom's side of the story. I believe the photos were real and I believe Jade, but due process requires that the accused be allowed to defend themselves. We aren't able to give Jade full credibility without that process, which makes the situation INCREDIBLY difficult. Regardless, there aren't many mitigating processes for murder to go unpunished. Best example is the case of Brigitte Harris, which was technically manslaughter - and if you read what happened in those circumstances, the hardest heart in the world wouldn't have given her prison time.

So if some old pervert prayed on your daughter for over a decade and while she was just a kid, you would be okay with it? You wouldn't go and murder that son of a bit*h in cold blood? If you don't already have kids of your own I pray to God that you never have them. You're already showing sings of uncaring father. Saying that that was no cause for murder? So according to you she should've just leave him alone and risk possibly being raped by that guy eventually. If that happened it would already be too late. So it's better safe than sorry and she stopped the creep on time before something even more terrible happened to her or maybe to someone else's child.

I completely relate & agree. As a survivor, it’s extremely difficult to say that what she did as a reaction to such a disgusting thing he’s done to her since she was a kid, I don’t blame her for reacting like that. Cases like this are difficult because there is a big victim in all of this as well who unknowingly, was a victim since she was 16, finding that all out at one time must have been so overwhelming & horrible. I just wish she didn’t have to go through it alone. It’s hard for me to say that Jade did the wrong thing in this situation. Because the situation itself is so wrong & horrible. I feel so bad for her.

@@robertreed7963ou don’t know that. My family “dealt” with this stuff internally (aka nobody did anything) and my sister who SAW me come back in the room after it happened told me 15 years later how she knew I was telling the truth about what happened to me but went along with the “she’s making it up” narrative anyway, because she is weak and also from our broken miserable family, and apparently needed to feel like one of the group even if it meant torching me. Read: she is the one person on earth, besides that uncle, who knew I was telling the truth - and when it was easier to stay quiet, she let the wolves have me even when she knew I was telling the truth. 15 years later she apologized and told me she knew she could have done more to correct mh BS family’s BS narrative (protect the uncles), and even though she KNEW I was telling the truth she let the wolves have me. It’s unbelievable the lengths people can go in their own minds to “act normal” and follow their programming when they’re in mental crisis. My own mother’s programming was to hushhhhh, so even when several of her brothers had come at me, she still can only freeze/fawn and demand I do the same, come to family dinner like everything is fine. It’s absolutely destroyed my relationship with my nuclear family, even though none of them touched me. Both of them have later told me that they believe me, and have apologized for not standing with or behind me when I told them what had happened as a kid. They still kept marching with the group anyways and basically threw me off a cliff, by maintaining the status quo at all costs. Their psyche couldn’t process what had happened to me so they autopiloted to usual programming and needed to act like nothing happened. It was a panic response, not apathy. Tl;dr it’s totally plausible that the birth father’s brain broke when he realized that he was dealing with a dead family member and that his daughter had killed someone, and he reverted to his Catholic schoolboy programming and immediately skip-hopped to the police station on autopilot to do what you do when you see a crime - call the police. Oversharing but it’s always hard to tell from the outside what people are thinking. If you just take them on their behavior, it’s kinda BS. Nobody could have guessed I was being SA’d, because I was always smiling and happy. I was always smiling and happy because I was so good at hiding it, because I learned young. People still tell me how happy and sparkly I am and it’s depressing AF. I am NOT happy, but I exude it. On autopilot. Still. While I’m at the lowest point in my life. Thus - it couldn’t have happened because she was always smiling is a cruel catch 22. He must not have believed her because he went to the police - he may well have been in shock, which shortcircuited his higher functioning and had him on autopilot. I’d be interested to hear an interview with him after the fact, or maybe after her sentencing. He may feel differently about his actions.

I can't blame her. I've been sa'd and nearly r'd by an uncle. I tried both routes, going to family and going to the police. Both routes led to very little. Family locked him and I in a room, with only two other people so that he could 'apologize' for what he did. The entire time the only thing I saw hiding in his eyes was violent rage, and I felt like the more time they forced us to remain the more unstable things would become. I was shaking. They kept telling me "let it go, he's a veteran of the military, nothing will happen. Don't go to the police." but I was scared. He lived just a few houses down from me and I was terrified that in the night I'd wake up with him on top of me again, and this time I'd have no weapons. I went to the police, but they were frank with me. They could slap him on the wrist, drag his name a little, but it wouldn't bring any real measure of justice. Not until he actually r'd me or hurt me badly. I thought about unaliving myself out of fear, depression, shame, all those negative feelings. When the rage hit it was unimaginably powerful. I'd never felt so angry. I was angry at my family. I was angry at him. I was angry at myself. He's still alive, but I moved away along with the few family members who believed me. The rest he convinced that I was crazy and incapable of discerning reality from fantasy. My family tried to lock me up in a mental facility to save his image. So thinking from her perspective, knowing he lived so close, knowing he harbored those sick desires, and having your very foundation shattered I can truly empathize with the violence and hatred she likely felt. And that was all self preservation pushing her. A slap on the wrist from the cops, *maybe* he'd get some fines, and *maybe* people would believe her. But she'd have to leave, she'd have to change her entire life, and she would have to come to terms with what he did. And the community probably wouldn't have rallied against him either, so she'd have to deal with that too just like I did. The 'military veteran' too proud and honorable to do that to his own family. It's just a fucked up mess from the get go, and there's no easy answers.

Had she allowed for due process to take place maybe he would've offed himself rather than face her and the rest of the family. Now we'll never know and 2 lives are lost.

It's never morally correct to take a person's life. What you're describing is a double standard that enables us to find an excuse to take another's life if we can just keep talking ourselves into justifying it; if we consider any form of taking a human life morally just, nobody is ever truly off limits. And that should be highly concerning! Moral justice would look like sexual offenders being punished reliably, and not get away with their crimes. Moral justice would be to allow him to live, but confined for the rest of his life for violating another person in one of the most intimate ways possible. Moral justice is applying human rights even to those who don't abide by human rights; because the right to live needs to be, at all times, a fundamental right that cannot be swayed from in order for us to insist everyone, including marginalized groups, has a right to them. We cannot make exceptions because that's what fascism does! There are people in this world who believe it's moral justice for me to die because I'm not straight, because I'm disabled, because I'm chronically ill. They consider my life an infection to the human population. The only reason why they can't just get away with murdering me is because my human right to live trumps their moral values. Morality is subjective. The right to live is not.
