My only advice today is to not to get in any hurry building the Grain Bin in this heat. I can almost guarantee that you'll make mistakes trying to hurry up to get out of the heat. Use the time to concentrate on exactly what you want inside and to make drawings and material lists. Also use this time to enjoy each other and please share with us you guys having fun.

Hey Mr and Mrs Crocker, congratulations on your union. The building is here!! Yeah mount a fan in there next to the wall, it's round will create a vortex. I work on campers and a lot of curves in framing,use a lot of 22.5° and 11° cuts, might test a scrap piece of lumber and cut 2 22.5° angle on end of 2x4 to see if it fits tight. They also make a thick rubber membrane for roofs you could lay out to seal the deck

Good morning Danielle and Jason ! Watching you two trying to figure out what to do with your future home and I think your best thing to do is go on your honeymoon, rest, enjoy each other. Come back refreshed and while you are gone.....think about exactly how and what you will do on the grain bin. This is a huge undertaking and a lot at stake. Be safe and remember that you all are loved and respected .

Home made weed killer safe for pets. 1 gallon white vinegar + 1 cup of salt+ 1 tablespoon of Dawn dish liquid+ 2 cups of Epsom salt. Spray it while the weeds are dry and growing. Best during a sunny day. The Epsom salt helps keep away bugs, too.

@tammywragg6254 the vinegar alone will evaporate and takes more to work to kill the weeds. The mixture helps the weed absorb and the Epsom salt helps with absorption and bugs.

Look at the extreme heat/humidity as a positive. It limits how much you can do so it gives you more time to settle in with planning. If the other grain bin is your size, I’d make that trip a priority to check the stairs but also see another layout. If you thinking of kids a half loft may not give you the quiet space you need as adults. Ie baby crying themselves to sleep and having to be hyper quiet below so as to not wake them. Best thing for babies sleep is not being disturbed with sounds while trying to sleep. No doubt yall will figure it out no matter what you choose. Kids change everything. As I am now a grandparent, having kids was the best decision ever.

Take angle iron, attach it to the Bin first in the shape of your door and size. Then cut out the metal and it should stay stronger that way. That Also creates the frame to attach to for the door.

As for working in the heat, stay hydrated! And rest in the hottest part of the day. Here in Tucson, we are under extreme heat advisory. Yesterday was 112 here. I try to have all my outdoor chores done by 9am. Heat exhaustion and overexposure to the sun can be deadly. And it is possible for a person to be affected and sensitive to the heat and exposure to the sun for the rest of their lives. My son in law, when he was in his 20’s installed insulation in new construction in Lake Havasu Arizona. He came home very ill from the heat many times. Now he is in his 50’s and is very sensitive to being overheated or out in the sun.

The ribbing adds structural support to the bin. I wouldnt worry about the bins support.
@forgottenblacksheep
@forgottenblacksheep 16 күн бұрын
I think the inside membrane needs to be wider. Enough to protect the inside subfloor. I’d leave it open. It would have a little airflow but be able to dry out if it ever leaks. The underside of the deck should be boxed in under the bin. Your crawlspace( Slightly smaller than the bin to keep it dry.) maybe add rock in the crawl space with a wire mesh to keep out critters.

I would cut a couple of holes in the bin where the door and a window are going to go but only the size of the fans to get some air flow through the bin. Cut in so you have a cross breeze air flow. When you are ready for a window or a door then just open the opening to the size of the door or window. You might consider getting a portable room air conditioner and put one of those in there for some cool/cold air and then use one of the holes for the exhaust

A valid point was mentioned,it’s key to weld the angle iron frame in last. My brain tells me that if you leave a portion of the metal at the top and the bottom connected together that leaves that opening stronger if you follow me. So to speak if you have 6 inches on the bottom and 6 inches on the top of that door opening that would still be connected as a part of the bin you’re not opening the whole structure you’re still leaving at the top of the door connected and at the bottom of the door connected then you slip your frame in there and weld it. You’re raising the interior floor up anyhow. You may have to step up coming in. You also need at least a 4 count on R-19 clamps in the wielding department those will hold frames in place doors windows frames way easier

Jason & Danielle, good morning I hope that you both are doing well. Congratulations again on getting married. Have you considered calling the Owner of the Grain Bin where you stayed at to pick there brain? Ask them questions about their Grain Bin configuration and how they did things. Also I’m sure that you can probably find a website for Grain Bin finishing. There’s not too many wrong answers and a lot of right answers as to how you should finish your Grain Bin. You can also ask any builders that you know. You probably won’t to seal the deck floor, then use a vapor barrier thick plastic barrier, then frame the floor with probably 2x6 or 2x4 lumber so you can insulate the floor you install. Then you probably want to do either 2x4 or 2x6 walls so you can insulate your walls. Probably install a plastic vapor barrier on walls before you install either Sheetrock or Toung and Groove Pine on your walls. Research, Research, Research!!! Then you can decide what you want to do! Good luck and I love you both! Enjoy your first year of marriage and honeymoon year together! ❤❤🎉🎈🎉🎈🥂🎊🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hello, Kids! 😊 Take your time with building your subfloor. I'm assuming that you shot this in the afternoon/evening of the 8th. Take care and stay cool. I think that after you get the subfloor done, do your internal framing and put in your doors and windows. That way, you can get some airflow . I'm not a contractor; I'm just a retired nurse. Trial-and-error is the only way to proceed period but I think because you've already showed up.Or you're gonna put your front door I think it's gonna be fine.You could always frame it out and steal and well that in then you put your doors in. Also I think a vapor barrier would be in your best bet.You can always insulate from below so I wouldn't worry about insulation but yes a vapor barrier.

Your cleared land will continue to sprout weeds and unwanted vegetation unless you get a root chopper drum that’s pulled behind a big tractor and has large blades that penetrate the surface and chops the roots apart. It takes multiple times pulled over the areas. We have one but it can only be pulled by a tractor larger than 120 hp. They may have smaller ones. You’ll still have to routinely bushhog the cleared areas several times a year to keep it cleared. A constant struggle to get to a clean field pasture.

Good morning, I live in Florida where the humidity is crazy. I live in an off grade house. We had to replace so much of the subfloor when we bought the house. If it were me, I would put a subfloor over the 2x4s you have the grain silo sitting on now. Something like osb or plywood, then I would seal the sides again once down. If you use osb or plywood, you need to put a viber barrier down on top of it. Take it from me who's had to live with plywood floors for a while because of the amount of work we had to do. You'll need to seal it well because the amount of moisture that will come up through the floor is crazy. We had to run dehumidifiers continuously. So I would seal it really well with a paint that has a sealer in it. Like 3 or 4 coats. Then you should be able to put your flooring straight on it. We did this before putting flooring down, and it helped so much with the humidity in the house. I would do the doors and windows cut out like they do on shipping containers. A good youtuber to check out on the shipping container is Life Uncontained.

Hi from Australia! I would reinforce your door entry/window openings with square/or rectangular steel, welded frame to silo! It'll strengthen & give solid spot for door jambs to attach too also. Over here we make steel frame homes as they're great against rot/termites and fire. I had a search and this seems to be your closest structural steel supplier! Ray Albright 1600 S May Ave, Oklahoma City. I don't know, there could similar closer! Congratz you guys on finally getting married! Stay cool cheers!

I think a dozer will take all your topsoil, and leave junk that will not foster good growth. Perhaps, a stump mulcher is more what you need - get rid of all your stumps, and some of the brush will be taken care of. Cutting the smaller trees, especially those too close to (or under) your larger trees, will make a huge difference. Most of all, take your time, make your plans and material lists, and make the time for fun!!

Good Morning, "Coffee" I had an idea, and I hope it isn't dumb! Can you guys pick up a couple of pieces of the pannels the same size of your building, so the radius will be the same, so you can have a template. so when you are laying down subfloor. At least it would keeping from guess work for the edge.

Metal sweats a lot. If you have anything touching the metal, it will get wet and mold. I would build a free-standing building inside the bin Without anything touching the metal bin Start with an octagon shaped floor to get full use of space. So you won't have to deal with building a massive curve into everything. Cut the widows out of the bin as needed.😮

Before you really tear into that grain ben, it would probably be good if you did more research on other grain ben builds.

I’m sure you are checking all these things out online of those who have built these bins. Can you seal all the way around with that black stuff about two inches high from ground, and then do the spray insulation on the walls of the bin before doing your floors?
