Welcome To Cog Hill Farm: Good wholesome family fun on the farm!
Welcome to our farm adventure! In this exciting KZfaq video, we invite you to join us as we embark on a journey of transformation and compassion for our beloved animals.
In this episode, we're making a big decision that will have a significant impact on the future well-being of our farm animals. We've decided to change up the pasture layout, creating a 3rd paddock for our farm and mainly so we now have 3 paddocks for the milk goats to rotate in and out of. The process of building and setting the posts for the pastures is underway, and we're thrilled to share this pivotal moment with you.
Through this video, you'll witness our dedication to animal welfare as we work tirelessly to design pastures that prioritize the happiness and health of our farm animals. Each decision we make is guided by our commitment to providing the best possible living conditions for our cherished residents.
As we take you through the process, you'll see the love and care we pour into each aspect of this transformation. From carefully selecting the ideal locations to ensuring ample space and resources for our animals, every detail has been thoughtfully considered.
Join us as we discuss the major implications of this project, not only for our animals' happiness but also for the long-term sustainability and success of our farm.

That was when Nugget was confined over night to that little corral on the old farm. Now he has that half acre space that he lives in now, and I think, overall he's a lot happier. Personally I would be saddened to see Nugget confined overnight again.

@@carlbenj1668 Maybe not on older, mature trees, but on younger ones with more tender bark and being able to get to the leaves, yes they can destroy the trees. Jason made comments about the smaller trees eventually providing additional shade to the pasture. Those trees would be vulnerable to foraging goats or sheep. If you watch Grandpa Adler Farms or Walker Family Farm, you can see the damage caused by goats (Adler) and what they did to prevent sheep from damaging trees (Walker).

Amazing forward thinking aka pre-planning the pastures. Having a 3 pasture rotation available for the goats is the best idea possible plus the shade is a necessity. My weather is similar to yours. Just as you and Brooke stated after driving the last T-post, 'this shade feels good!'. Having that available for your babies is definitely typical of Brooke and Jason. The health and well-being of your babies is always paramount. The smart way you are approaching the fencing will provide. 60 acres of benefits from your 40 acres. Forward thinking at it's finest!

There have been farmers dying of heatstroke due to the extreme heat so please, everyone, give your animals some deep shade. This heat affects them too. I make sure that my chicken coop is built under a huge shade tree and ducks have the same set-up. I dont have any four legged critters yet but I see them trying to seek shade and water right next me. The neighbor has a cattle farm. The cows will huddle under a tree line trying to get out of the horrible Sun. I know that I cannot be out in it past 11am in Western Kentucky. Y'all be safe out there.

@sheliadavis7255 We reached 100 yesterday, so my thermometer read.....and it is under my porch in shade. Our real feel was 114 according to Accuweather. Can't imagine what it was like in Alabama yesterday.

Hard work but you are getting it done. The animals will be so excited. Wish we had a restaurant like yours where I live, food always looks so delicious.

I agree Jason. I think I would have just done the posts around the perimeter of the entire area, then decided how to divide it up internally from a drone view. I think you have lots of pastures in there but without seeing the entire thing enclosed from a bird eye view is hard.

Even if it’s not permanent, I think you should build a temporary area either for the pigs or for the goats to clean out that area of the forest. It doesn’t need to connect up to your main fence.
