They're both AA+AI, so makes sense, and more and more. They're very inexperienced and used as cannon fodder, so I see why the commander would just say it like that.

Those voice lines are for when the Osttruppen encounter German tanks being used by the enemy. Enemy German vehicles are found in two different ways; captured by the enemy when the vehicle was abandoned in combat, or in Skirmish when a player pits Germans against Germans.

Basically German's version of conscripts.

conscripts are just drafted civilians, ostruppen however are wounded soldiers or very old soldiers

​@@theminuskai7453 osttruppen are mostly volunteers of ex soviets soldiers that's captured, some are coerced or persuaded, irl, they're mostly decent and willing to fight for germans and their ideology, they have at least 6-8 month of training before serving. Instead, germans divisions that's consist of old and ineptitude personel to fight were called Volksstrum, they're made at the end of war just before the fall of berlin

Actually, many volunteered. Most were red army deserters who joined the Germans out of mutual hate for the Soviets

Nah, Osttruppen = Eastern Troops. Eastern Troops being a nickname for volunteers or prisoners picked up on the Eastern Front, and fighting for Germany.

Native german here, and I must say that the accent which these Osttruppen here have is rather weird, they even have a hard time pronouncing actual German words like "Brummbär" (Compare at 0:25 in the video) and the rest of their lines also has a very weird accent, so I don't know what exactly the devs were going for with the voices of the Hilfswilligen. Anyhow, as it was pointed out above, the Osttruppen are not Austrian. From what I understood, the Osttruppen in this game were meant to represent the Nazi collaborators from countries like the Ukraine, Latvia and the like, the in-game flavor text for the unit also says something about them originating from Germany's "allies", which probably means that they're meant to be troops from the Axis partners Hungary and/or Romania (both of which were employed heavily in the Battle for Stalingrad for instance). Also, listen to 3:59 he clearly says that he's not German and thus is likely from one of the Axis partners of the Reich. If anything, there used to be a sizable german minority in either of the several countries I mentioned - back in WWII, before the Red Army expelled most of them, so the troops we see here could be just that.

well the real Osttruppen is Russian and other anti communists from the soviet union and some of them were forced to fight or wanted to join but they figured out that the Russian Liberation Army for example was not even real and that it was just Russians in German uniforms with POA patches dose that make sense?

@@thedoctorairsoft6813 that's the irony of it. Their greatest weapon in invading Russia were the Russians themselves. Stalin and the Soviets were far from universally-liked, but the Germans fought in such a way that the Russians would rather take their chances with the Bolsheviks instead of defecting outright.

Their squad leader is likely Austrian/German, and represents the squad when it comes to communication. But then his attitude, and the actual content of his dialogue makes very little sense in that context. IMO COH1 did it really well with the volksgrenadiers, who have voice lines suggesting a veteran squad leader trying to direct undertrained old men/ young enlistees, which is an accurate representation of volksgrens.

There were mainly compromised of Non-communist Russian, Turkic, Georgian, Baltic, Ukranian and Belarusian volunteers too. The lack of morale in their voice could be the second grade equipment and low rations they are given by Germans. They were essentially cannon-fodder and military police not frontline combat units.

@@kebabdefender49 Also they were VERY prone to desertions back to Soviets. SS Legion Idel-Ural (Tatars) had move personel in pro-Soviet network than loyalists. ROA (which uniform is used for ingame Osttruppen) was considered so unreliable that it first fought the Soviet Army in *Prague*... where most of them immediately surrendered.

Quite a few of them simply don't play at all. They happen under such specific circumstances that it's totally possible that you've never encountered the appropriate circumstances for them to play.

To explain; Osttruppen as a unit represent Foreign Volunteers from Eastern Europe who wanted to fight for Germany for a variety of reasons, however despite being willing volunteers they were often treated very poorly by their German Officers and Allies. In CoH 2's case the Osttruppen are a very particular Foreign Volunteer; the Russian Liberation Army, as evidenced by their in game unit patch. The Russian Liberation Army, was made up of angry and disillusioned Russians who hated Stalin's rule and joined the Germans in an attempt to rid Russia of Communism, however they like the other aforementioned Osttruppen were treated just as poorly if not worse by the Germans due to Nazi Racial Policies.

They intended to liberate Russia from Soviet control, ostruppen or ostlegione were composed of Georgian, Azeri, Armenian, Dagestani, Russian, Ukrainian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, and Uzbek soldiers. There are no faction restrictions in MP, so you can play axis vs axis if you really felt like it. That’s why they have lines programmed for destroying German tanks.

Ostruppen are not Germans. They're Georgian, Azeri, Armenian, Dagestani, Russian, Ukrainian, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, and Uzbek soldiers who joined the Whermacht. Proves how much people hated communists. The Russian liberation army was even lead by a former commisar and his fellow former red army soldiers. Red army deserted to join the Germans for a chance to free Russia from the shackles of communism. Gotta respect that
