It's a great pity that the only Axis equivalent is a doctrinal ability for OKW, which is worse in every way (muni cost, detectability, damage). The only advantage it has is that it can move and has its own line of sight. As soon as an enemy blob approaches the Goliath the 'soft AI' (AI in charge of player-controlled units that auto-targets and moves out the way of vehicles) targets and near-instantly destroys the Goliath... and it dies long before the blob gets within the damage radius of the Goliath. The Goliath pre-nerf was stupidly OP, but it has been nerfed too heavily now; you almost never see people using the Overwatch doctrine 'cos the Goliath is useless. Even against vehicles it's hopeless. It takes perhaps 40% of the health of a Cromwell, and when you consider that for 90 munis (Gol costs 100) you can get a Panzerschrek on Sturmpioneers, which deals far more consistent damage versus vehicles, has far more survivability, greater range, has the potential to deal far greater amounts of damage over time (if you keep the Sturmpioneers alive) and has the potential to be recovered after a squad wipe, there really is no reason to use the Goliath at all. The videos you see on KZfaq of awesome squad wipes are almost all from before the nerf. You don't see these videos anymore, 'cos wasting 100 munitions on expensive Allied target practice doesn't make for good viewing. Arguably, the Goliath is still useful if you sneak it into a known retreat path, but you can do the same to greater effect with an Allied demo charge and for less cost and less risk (can always retreat a pioneer squad).
