In Texas, cohabiting couples are often deemed to be married under 'common law', even if they've only been living together for a short time! There is no duration requirement in Texas - if you live together, intend to be married (which can be interpreted very broadly and refer to each other publicly as husband and wife then, potentially, the State will view you as a married couple if things go wrong and you break up.
