Lots happening out there, but NY v. Trump remains the main event, and this week we again bring you a roundtable of all new prominent commentators-and all first time @talkingfedspod guests-who have been in and around the court the whole trial. Katie Phang, Yasmin Vossoughian, and Ben Wittes join Harry to carefully assess where the trial stands with nearly all the evidence in and on the verge of closing arguments, with special focus on Cohen’s testimony, inc whether the defense drew blood on cross.
-
TALKING FEDS PODCAST is a roundtable discussion that brings together prominent former government officials, journalists, and special guests for a dynamic and in-depth analysis of the most pressing questions in law and politics.

Maybe Michael Cohen is doing well with Blanche questions because he just has to tell the truth. Cohen has been hanging out with good people lately. That probably helps Michael be a person who can keep his cool.

This week showed just how little our press has learned. They've been wanting something to make this into a horse race. Blanche went all in screaming that Cohen was lying- obviously hoping Cohen would lose his cool but that didn't happen. Instead all our disgraceful entertainment oriented press went into the chicken little act. Special shout out to Ari Melbourn who let his personal dislike of Cohen influence his reporting. Disgraceful

This is the smartest hour of my week, and I love it. So what if a juror's family member suddenly becomes debt-free and a juror finds the defendant innocent? He just skates away. It is too much for me to consider - we are all focused on the richness of the testimonies and the evidence and the potential witnesses and redirects. What if he just skates? How are we going to get our stomachs out of our chests? I have hope that the jurors will use a critical view of the case and testimonies/evidence when considering the charges. I hope that the goodness and smartness of mankind goes beyond party affiliation. But, what if it doesn't? I guess we have to hope that voters take note of the case.

This jury will be fair. This jury will convict on all misdemeanors and at least one felony.
@zugzwang2007
@zugzwang2007 24 күн бұрын
If they find Trump guilty of any of the misdemeanours, the associated felonies will follow, unless they disbelieve the Pecker evidence. The difficulty with this case, evident in some of the lines advanced by the prosecution, is to connect Trump's election fixing activities with the records-falsification in an appropriate way. The risk is surely that the jury may have trouble crossing the bridge from the Trump-Pecker-Cohen conspiracy to an alleged Trump-Weisselberg-Cohen conspiracy. In fact, they might decide they can't quite believe in the latter, while being totally convinced of the former. In which case, they won't convict at all.
@zugzwang2007
@zugzwang2007 23 күн бұрын
Addendum: In fact, they jury cannot convict on the misdemeanours as such, because they are time-barred. They only come before the jury as a bridge to felony.

If guilty, revoke bond, and remand to the sheriff's department to await sentencing. Only acceptible process because that is what happens to every citizen convicted of felonies especially when there are multiple felony convictions. Lets see real and actual justice for once against this clown.

Hi ya’ll, great show thank you. There’s one thing that keeps eating at me.? The multi level justice system we have in this country. What do I mean by that? Well this. One can be completely innocent, and still be convicted, and conversely, as is the case here. One can be completely guilty,and still be acquitted. So let’s see, possible reasons. More money is probably the biggest factor. It truly is,”All about the Bens”. Then you have, good lawyers,bad lawyers. Could someone explain. Handing out justice in an environment of injustice. One more thing. Is winning a case,regardless of guilt or innocence more important than actual facts? Damn. I guess I should have gone to law school. Naw, I think I’ll just stay being a student of the horse. Low pay,great benefits, mostly get to work outdoors. Points to ponder people.

I bet they had people w many different views In Germany in the 30s . I’m Jewish and democrat and people like me are sick of the both siding all the info. It doesn’t make u unbiased, it makes u a helpmate to people who are happy to tear down our fight towards saving democracy. Seriously if it makes u feel better about yourself, fool yourself. But in this time of serious crisis both siding would be giving air to hitler in the 30s . We need to stand and fight tooth and nail and cannot allow any tiny inference that pushes anyone towards the traitorous republicans . No more both siding anywhere in the media . It doesn’t make you fair , it makes you complicit.

Control by ambitious and cleaver would be dictators is on the list. Pretty sure it's #6. #1 is unsurpation of power by either the legislative or executive branches. Everything on the list is in play , were supposed to avoid them in order to promote the things that constitute true human happiness. We've had the list since the early 1940s. I haven't been hearing Katie's doom and gloom on MSNBC, outside of Ari Melber who's usually fantastic but has been overstating the defense's attempts at reasonable doubt as reasonable doubt since day 1 of the Cohen cross. Barbara McQuade, Vaughn Hilliard, Andrew Weissman, Lawrence O'Donnell, etc. have been acknowledging day 2 of Cohen's cross was an improvement for Blanche but doesn't change the dominance the prosecution had for the entire rest of the trial.

david pecker bleu up the trump dolt defense. when he plays dumb and says he did not know giving someone gifts and not paying taxes is wrong. of course trump knew it is wrong to do that. david pecker, who has known the "man" for decades says trump is a hands on, detail oriented micro manager. we the people can see him micro managing his lawyers. as soon as the press says no one is showing up trump the detail oriented micro manager has his crew show up to supporting him while subverting the gag order.
