Coin Digging Mayhem! - Metal Detecting a 1700's farmhouse finds some killer old coins!

The second half of the day from a metal detecting hunt that gave up some of the best coins I've ever found. Myself, Nibbler, Doug, and Leroy were hunting at an old 1700's farmhouse. We originally only had permission to detect the fields and around an old barn. After about 5 hours of hunting Doug was able to talk with the homeowner and got us access to hunt around the house and the floodgates of old coins was unleashed! Here's some of the highlights from the day.

Thanks Kay. Once again they were really nice people. The daughter gave us a walkthrough tour of their old 1800’s barn. It was really cool seeing all the woodwork and stone walls. Meeting the people is half the fun of most hunts.

Awesome finds! I recently found around 70 coins on a property with a large cent and 14 silvers and two indians. It's either feast or famine.. sure is fun..

Thanks Gypsy! We are planning another trip back soon. There was a ton of land we couldn’t get to due to the tall grass. I might even offer to mow if the farmer lets me! Lol. Basia will never be forgotten. I do miss her.

Great house!! I loved it. Great hunt! You really did well on the coins. Olive Oil !!! For the copper coins. I have restored a copper cent after letting it soak in olive oil for a few months. The gunk came off and I can see it so much better!

I've tried olive oil before on smaller coppers and it worked a little (I guess results may vary, lol). The large coppers are pretty special for me so any kind of submersion just makes me a little nervous.

That's an incredible Seated Liberty , my favorite in a 1853 Stars & Rays . You guys have to go back or heck invite me over and I'll dig it , I only live California and can barely find enough time to walk my dog . Just get back there when it's not so blazing hot and show us more .

The thing with the cross hairs is a tip gos on the end of a torch. It's what makes the flame pointed.

Jason, Wow! congrats on all the awesome coins. Zehn = ten in German, the other word is the denomination, like Dollar. The hexagonal chrome thing is likely a car radiator cap from the 1920's and the mystery item is a welding torch tip. Fun times! Keep up the great work.

Thanks! The German coin was a real surprise. Theres was a big German population a few towns over (actually still called Germantown). I wouldn’t mind finding a few more of those!!

Mystery item is a modern turbo torch tip. The torch would be used to braze or solder copper pipe.

That was a great yard! Great property owners to boot! Congrats on the Seated Quarter, Barbers, Merc, & IHP! Very cool relic finds as well. That brass piece with the cross hairs almost looks like it would've had a lens in it maybe to an old Telescope/Microscope maybe? Nice job and HH!

I believe the chevrons go on the tips of leather straps from saddles. More for preservation of the strap end.

Thanks Beth. A video coin cleanup is a good idea. Some people are totally against cleaning coins though and nothing I do will change their minds. I just like to see enough details to be able to appreciate them.

Its an old twist on wire connector. there is a compartment for up to 4 wires. You put wires in and twist them together. Its about mid 1920's

Great finds Jason, A huge congrats man. Super happy for ya. If you want to try, put a piece of foil in the bottom of a pan and bring some water to a boil. put the coin in the boiling water on the aluminum foil and put some baking soda in and boil for ten minutes, might take the black off of you silver coin. Nice to hear you say Basia. I will let you know my quarter count for the year. Huge congrats on that seated quarter. just amazing.

Thanks Mike. That’s exactly how I cleaned the tarnish off. I add a little salt too. There’s a good pic of it at the end and it looks great now. Basia’s quarter count would probably be beating mine by now. Those beaches she had were quarter magnets!

Looks like a large blow torch nozzle tip..... the steel blades making the crosshairs inside were to twist the gas to a point when burning.

Quarter Hoarder actually in my town in kansas there is a house and a college dedicated to the people that built the town into what it is today. My parents just named me after them. But still it's pretty cool.

EARTH ANGEL😇 NICE “coin “ hunt,Jason !!👍 CONGRATULATIONS 🎈 on all those finds! A 1720 farthing,how great is that??!😳😍🤔Some of the 1st settlers in that area were Germans👨‍🌾👨‍🌾. Quarters were surely nice additions!😉😁. Brass plate looks like it was from. Small wooden chest. Always an axe head; always a harmonica reed !🤔! Beautiful home: lots more still to be dug. Are you going back???🤔😍👍👍👍

Hey Judine! A few towns over from where we were is called Germantown so you’re exactly right. I still rarely find a German coin at all, let alone an old one. The seated quarter was a real treat. I’ve been wanting to find one for so long I almost gave up hoping for it. Always great hearing from you. Talk to you soon.

Congrats on your first Seated Quarter! Love the old German silver also. That's one of those places you want to go to until the ground is silent.
