Thanks to you, I’ve been able to build a list to use when inspecting coins for errors and varieties on large ONE PENNY coins. Love the George IV designs.

Another enjoyable video Paul thanks, Susan's Irish 1/2d's are George III 1st issue 1766 Spink catalogue number 6612, unfortunately are quite worn and corroded, so not worth much. On the George III cartwheel penny, if you look the kings name is touching the inside edge of the raised outer rim, the legend usually touches the outer edge of the raised rim.

For the 1936 penny, this is just post mint damage - reminds me of the so called "dryer coins", meaning ones that fell into a dryer and the constant tumbling made their rims deformed and raised. Even if this is not exactly what happened to this coin, I'm willing to bet it was something similar in nature.

The 1902 Low Tide penny in the first picture was in really nice condition. It's such a shame it was pierced. And I think the Cartwheel penny must have been a reproduction. The detail of George III was nice but the ship didn't look right. A great video 👍

How lovely to see another of your videos! My opinion is that the cartwheel Penny is certainly a reproduction. The 1936 Penny looks like post mint damage to me. The fact that the curved rim occludes the beading means that it couldn't have been minted like that. It might be something like a "dryer coin", as they are called in North America. Coins that get rolled in some kind of rotary machine like a clothes drier develop a mushroomed rim, and this looks similar. Paul, thank you, and your generous viewers, for sharing these interesting photos!

I have a coin exactly like the cartwheel penny but dated 1799, now mine is slightly more worn around the head, the face does look similar, yet when I turn my coin over the reverse is upside down to the obverse, is it possible this is a major error and do you know who I could contact about this please ? Thank you.

There wasn’t any cartwheel pennies minted in 1799. As for the orientation, there are older coins that have coin alignment (the 1797 cartwheel is one like that). You can always check Numista to try and verify your coin.

@@mackemmoolah thank you for the reply, I have been in touch with a local auction house and they are going to appraise my coin for possible sale, they deal with coins so will be able to help me sell my collection, I always called it a cartwheel penny as it’s pretty similar, the only difference is the cartwheel width on the rim.
