The key to success with any of these is to wait until the right time to play it. If it's a high volume machine meaning you can see it gets lots of play then this is ideal.

Just now realized the coin pusher is a more complex way of gambling for kids

When I was 14 I worked for a day in the bulldozer quarter game at the carnival. It is uncanny how many quarters fall in those slits on the side and go to the house. That's why it barely moves even though it should when three quarters are pushed. I was told to really load it up on the front edge if it wasn't already loaded deep. It looks like you will get a big windfall, but more importantly for the game operator, the added weight in the front makes a lot more quarters fall through the side slits for the house.
