+Happs 85 India came into existence on 15th of August 1947. And before that it was ruled by either firngies or raja maharajs. 1857 was not fought for common people, it was only for saving their own Riyaasat or for religion and never for freedom. I love how this song speaks about more than just the loss of the culture of Punjab and Punjabis. The beauty and grace of women diminishing with modernisation and the the fact that many men in their youth are getting into drugs. Also, very importantly the mother tongue is being lost over time with the influence of the west (in their music and media). However, I dont like that most of the examples of the loss in tradition is depicted in a way that points towards women more than men. Therefore, the best part about this is the nostalgia present when they describe their sadness about the division of their land of Punjab, and more so the fact that visiting the other parts of the holy land is very difficult, given tight national border security between India and Pakistan. It is true that Punjab (in India) is perhaps the only state in India that feels the brunt of partition. Chenaab and Raavi are rivers that run mainly through Pakistani Punjab. They ask 'how is Sutluj' which is the river that runs through Indian Punjab, highlighting the yearning, attachment and memory of once having been one. This song completely overlooks political and social hostility, and instead focuses on the love and dream that now seems impossible. Hope this helps. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm not punjabi by birth but I've spent about a decade in Chandigarh and it's impossible not to be captivated by rich heritage of this blessed land punjab . I was born in Kashmir , I once talking to my a friend of mine about love / heritage/cultures and traditions , I remember telling him " everyone loves kashmir that's a fact but I think God loves punjab " It's just a emotion that came out . I’m Muslim, dad Buddhist, mother sadly passed away was Sikh. She was a beautiful ‘Kaur’ Been to Golden temple and my mums Punjabi family were the most friendly I’ve ever met. True Punjabi hospitality. This song gives me such a vibe, good down to earth music with the grandmaster Gurdaas Maan. Love it❤❤❤❤

For Sikhs Pakistan is holy land, where many Gurus and great Sikh personalities were born raised and died. Only RSS Hindus want the bond broken. Sikhs have special relationship with Muslims, both of love and and times war... But remember Guru Nanaks best friend Mardana was Muslim, Foundation stone of Golden temple laid by Muslim, When Guru gobind Singh needed water for thirst it was Muslim who helped. Also remember it was Hindu who conspired and spread fake rumorus to Moghal king to kill Sikh guru, it was Hindu who was involved in killed Guru Gobind Singhs children. Saint Fareed was Muslim and his writings are in the holy Sikh scriptures called the Guru Granth Sahib. Sikhs belive in 1 god, Muslims believe in 1 god. Hindus have millions and do idol worhship. Dont let RSS Hindus cause friction between Sikhs and Hindus !

I had tears in my eyes at the line "Saanu Sauda nhi pugda, Raavi ton Chanaab puchhda ki haal hai Satluj da". The meaning of this line is Chenab River (on the border) asks Raavi (in Pak) how's Satluj (in India)? Like a friend separated from the other!

Lot of love from Lahore. We both punjabs are suffering with this division. I wish i could go Amritsar every day for breakfast. I live in Singapore and i have many Indian punjabi friends here. I never felt any difference among us. We eat together and hangout together. Ya Allah, accept my dua.

Go ask those bearded Mullahs of Aligarh who sowed the seed of sedition ......strangely, they still live in India and still spew vitriolic diatribe; latest is refusal to sing Vande Mataram ....Like you, I have many Pakistani friends with who I speak Punjabi. But there is one difference we are two Nations Muslims and Hindu and this two nation theory is basic of Pakistan. Even living with Hindu for thousand years could not changed the mentality of Hindu towards Muslims so we are same by color and race and region only religion divide us into two nations.
