About Col du Sabot - Hidden Gem of Isère
No far away from the Hollywood climb to Alpe d'Huez, you will find the climb to Col du Sabot. It is a hidden gem in an area littered with world-class rides. Compared to Alpe d'Huez it has much fewer cars, is quiet and serene, is more challenging, takes you higher, and much closer to nature. The ride starts with a 7 km/ 4.3 mi warm-up that takes you to Allemond and a huge dam. You get to ride next to the dam before the actual climb begins. Right from the beginning of the climb, you will experience very few cars. The gradient will mostly be around 8-10 percent. As you get higher you'll pass a huge waterfall. The higher you get, the more rewarding is the scenery. The views are amazing and in a distance below, you can see the dam from the warm-up.

Just add music:
Most cyclists would agree that the ride to Col du Tourmalet is awesome. But when it comes to music opinions are very mixed. This is why we recommend adding your favorite music to the ride. It is quite simple. Mute KZfaq and open a browser window. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, KZfaq, etc…) and pick the music you like, and enjoy the ride... The original sound of the ride has been left out. This is because the natural sound of the surroundings is drowned by noise from passing cars, vibrations from the road, wind, and the rider's breathing.

Precisely!! Based on feedback from many subscribers, we learned many prefer the speed of a Strava KOM rider for our ride along videos. For those that like to ride at their own speed we recommend using our app Open Road.

Excellent video, yet again. As you said, it;s crazy being so close to Alpe d'Huez and hardly anyone on it. I include myself as I did Alpe d'Huez in summer of 2019. I also did the Croix de Fer and would have passed the turn off for the Sabot - now on the "to do" list when we get to travel again

I loved your video. I put on Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto #2 and set off for the ride. I love the smooth image you've created, it's a lot better than many videos out there. I like too, the simple image, uncluttered with speed, grade, distance, time, etc. Sometimes I like that, but sometimes it's nice to just enjoy the view and set my own pace. I'm a huge fan of riding in France, so thanks for introducing me to a new area....

@@BiketheWorld I read the other negative comments. I can't believe it. You provide amazing free videos without pop-up ads in it. If they think you're going too fast on the road, youtube have the option to slow down the speed of the video! Anyways, it sounds to me like excuses to not exercise 😂

@@blackvx Thanks Michael, your comment is much appreciated. The speed has been set in accordance with the fastest riders so the ride isn't boring, and you are right that speed can be adjusted in the lower right corner, and we also have an app that adjusts the speed according to the rider. One of the best climbs in Isère with col de Sarenne, la Bérarde, Notre Dame de la Salette and Relais du Serpaton. There was a rumor about a green way to link Col du Sabot with Col de la Croix de Fer.

@BiketheWorld
@BiketheWorld 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Graham, Thank you for your feedback. Glad you liked this video :-) The videos are produced for our indoor cycling app where the speed is adjusted according to the speed of the rider. So for that purpose sound is not needed. As a courtesy, we also publish them here on KZfaq. We do our best to make our subscribers on KZfaq happy. But unfortunately, it is not always possible to include sound. Often vibrations are transplanted into the microphone and make the sound quality unbearable. Despite we use a wind muff, the high speed also creates a bad sound quality. You can read more in the description of our videos. The quality of royalty-free is not always good, so it takes a lot of time to find the right music. That means we can produce three videos without music instead of one with music. We did try to add music to our Alpe d'Huez ride, but it did not seem to make any difference to our subscribers. I guess most like to add their favorite music.

@BiketheWorld
@BiketheWorld 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Piere, thank you for your interest. For optimal realism, the camera is precisely from the rider's point of view, not from the handlebar.

I LOVE your videos, but I do like to hear the sounds of the road, don't care if it's the rider breathing, cars passing, vibration from the road, water noise from a river, the wind in my ears, that's what makes it more real. If people want music, then they can just mute the video, and play music. I can play music anytime I want, but If I want a great indoor ride experience, I like to hear the noises from the actual ride.
@BiketheWorld
@BiketheWorld Жыл бұрын
So happy you like our videos :-) I do understand your wish, and we are getting better at providing real ride sound. However, it is not always possible. We have done numerous tests with microphones, and the sound quality has not been at par with the picture quality. We are still experimenting and hopefully, we will soon find a way to solve this problem.

Beautiful countryside but it was like going up on your motorcycle. I appreciate it is the best way for you to mass produce all the climbing and other videos but it doesn't feel realistic. What other names are your videos under? Thanks
@BiketheWorld
@BiketheWorld 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Luc, It is a hard call. Many like the videos to be fast in alignment with the fastest riders and not to be bored. Others like it slower in accordance with their own speed. To make everybody happy we have made an app which follows the speed of the individual rider.
@lucp252
@lucp252 3 жыл бұрын
@@BiketheWorld Yes I read that there was an app to regulate the speed after I posted. Probably a good option. You seem to have all the perfect elements in there, quiet safe road, beautiful scenery and it felt almost like a normal ride. Here’s something I do when I am riding. I add my speed and grade together and try to ride at that number. For example, if grade is 5,6,or 7% I try to ride at a speed to equal ‘20’. So 5%+15kph=‘20’. 6%+14kph=‘20’. 7%+13kph=‘20’. (A pro would probably be closer to ‘30’ and for 8,9, and 10% he would be closer to ‘26’ or ‘27’ and me ‘16 or ‘17’). If you could film like that it would give a more realistic feeling in the grade changes while watching the video. (And stay out of the cow patties-that was one of the clues you weren’t riding a bike.)
@BiketheWorld
@BiketheWorld 3 жыл бұрын
@@lucp252 Thanks Luc, when we know the individual rider's power output and weight we can adjust the speed accordingly to the gradient. To us, that is the most realistic form of indoor training. Unfortunately, not everybody does not have a power meter or a smart trainer, so we share these videos as a courtesy so fellow cyclists around the world have a chance to experience these amazing rides.
