@@scotheggie8057 They opponent doesn't have to use a beat in the battle for it to count as a counter. For example, in the 7toSmoke between Alexinho and So-So, So-So did the starsky bass "counter" before Alexinho even went. It still counts as a counter because it is one of Alexinho's special sounds.

@@daviddotorg Well there's a counter (no pun intended) example to that. Zekka spent a lot of time in his last round of the kickback doing counters to what d-low did on his kickback wildcard. I think one of the judges mentioned that if the counter had been to something D-low did in their battle instead of the wildcard it would've scored higher. To me the point of a counter is to basically say "I'm doing what you do better than you" or "I can do what you do just as well as you do it." So a counter to a technique your opponent has not used in the current battle falls flat, and a counter that's not as good or better than what your opponent did falls flat as well in my opinion.

The judges have a bias towards hype/crowd pleasers. Same thing with Codfish. It's fine, the system still turns the best beatboxers up to the top.

@Glizzster Don't get me wrong, I think codfish is a fantastic beatboxer. I am equally aware that Inertia is very versatile. I'm saying that a lot of Codfish's GBB 2018 run was based on hype and there were much better contenders that year IMO.
