This is absolutely correct. Donald Trump being president is like a bad marriage. I don't know why ppl are surprised when he says or does something shitty or stupid. He'll never change. We can't change him. We have to not respond to his tweets (cut communication) vote him out (sever all ties) You can't negotiate with terrorists, toddlers, or NARCISSISTS
@EleanorPeterson4 жыл бұрын
Hi, Debra! Yep. I thought it was significant that as soon as he got into power, he commandeered Twitter. Dictators, tyrants, megalomaniacs and despots throughout history have known that the key to maintaining your grip on power is to control the media. Trump hates formal interviews full of awkward questions, so he bounces the questions back onto the interviewer: "Well, what would you do? No reply, huh? Hmm. Next question..." (But Mr President - I'm not here to answer difficult questions, I'm here to pose them for the people who want to hear your answers.) "This interview is over..." He doesn't need any Chinese/North Korean/Russian-style newspaper censorship or a conspicuous clampdown on press freedom (far too easy to criticise) - he just needs to talk directly through Twitter. Yes, it's crass, stupid, undignified, and has destroyed any kind of credibility he might have hoped to achieve as a statesman, but he's a demagogue who knows that the people who'll keep him in power don't care about that. They don't read dull ol' newspapers anyway - they live through Facebook and Twitter.

☹ 🙂 To laugh in times of historic sorrow is a precious gift. Thank You Stephen Colbert.
@74artgrrl4 жыл бұрын
Yes, we must laugh in times of sorrow but we also have an obligation to resist before we spiral into despair. Haven’t we learned from history? My father in law is German. He remembers playing in buildings and residences bombed after the Nazi regime fell. He remembers seeing body parts and poverty and dismal surroundings. He remembers the terror, shame and desolation. Let’s not repeat that here.
@alephnull74104 жыл бұрын
“Historic sorrow?” Im sorry but contemporarily we are not capable of grasping “historic sorrow” in the 21st century. 400,000 World War 2 American casualties is “historic sorrow”. Regardless of what Hollywood wants you to believe is “historic sorrow”, Vietnam was a fraction of the number of casualties in WW2. Regardless, the Vietnam war can most certainly be characterized as “historic sorrow”. The term of a president you disagree with can hardly be characterized as “historic sorrow” so get a grip. The real “historic sorrow” is Colbert’s paycheck for telling the same joke over and over.

I'm a Republican, and I agree with Sage exactly. Trump is a disaster for the party and the country. "Vote Red" - Red has two centuries of standing for liberalism, all the way back to the French Revolution. It also has a century and a half standing for Marxism in its various flavors. The Republicans weren't associated with the color red until the 2000 Florida recounts. Between those three intrepretations of the color, who on the ballot isn't some kind of red? If "Vote Red" means supporting Trump's criminal conduct in office, I'd like to bring back the anti-communist slogan "Better dead than red."

@cak01vej I know hell is in the Bible, it makes it's first appearance as a concept in the NT and is mostly talked about by Jesus. However it is vaguely describe d as being a separation from God or as a place of eternal fire, nothing more than that really. The concepts of hell having various levels based on your sins is an idea from Dante, that is what I was referring to. Hell predates the Bible too, as you say the Greeks had similar concepts with Tartarus, as did the Egyptians and many other societies. As with most of what's in it, the Bible's version of hell is just copied from older religions. That's usually how pantheon religions work - absorbing the other religions it comes into contact with to make itself more palatable to locals as it doesn't mean giving up their beliefs, just taking on a few more. Christianity is the best monotheistic religion at it - you can also see this in how they take other religions gods and turn them into saints, such as the Celtic goddess Brigid becoming Saint Brigid a patron saint of Ireland. The point is, I was referring in my original comment specifically to the concept of the circles of hell, which as you've agreed is fanfiction by Dante, and Purgatory which was created ad nauseum by the Vatican because they felt they needed a place less horrible than hell to explain where unbaptised babies went when they died. There is no Biblical support for the concept.

@Jason Butche The truth is always distorted in "neutral" coverage. This is purely a business decision, as I know plenty of Trump voters that have CNN programmed on their Sirius radios, and plenty of liberals who do too. There's only the truth, and when it's the narrators job to put reality in the form of a question or statement designed to give leverage to both sides to spin it, it is a bad joke. It makes me angry to think crucial information necessary for people to live informed in their Democracy is packaged in boardrooms in the form of a pitch to draw ratings.
@markgreen46124 жыл бұрын
I disagree. I think they SHOULD pick a typical Trumpanzee panelist. Let them give their arguments and then have those arguments destroyed by evidence to the contrary. What's the use of having a conservative on who is mostly agreeing with the liberals? It's far better to have a typical Trumpanzee as a panelist so that Trumpanzee viewers will see their own arguments being shot to shreds. Our goal should be to help the delusioned to remove the veil they've placed in front of their faces and to see Trump for who is really is.
