Obama's drone war is certainly criminal, but I never understood what anyone expected him to do about the problems in Chicago. As though his being black or a Chicagoan meant that he could wave a wand and make it go away, or that stopping local acts of gun violence were a thing that a president could or should be responsible for.

I guess it depends on how you feel about what youre calling your 'self'. If 'mistakes' are also the way we respond to experiences, then maybe it would be a good thing to go and change some of those responses, but you cant do that until you properly understand why its good you resond differently. When i say 'self' here im referring to what people usually mean when they use that word, which is an unstable identity composed of concepts/beliefs.

If you don't stand up and be counted against a policy, party or individual in a democratic society then you are (passively) supporting that policy, party or person. Too many people think that, "My vote is only one vote, it doesn't really count!" But they fail to understand that there are hundreds, thousands or even more thinking exactly the same which is why, all too often, elections fail to reflect the true mood of the nation. I ran for local government last year and lost out by just 7 votes. Yes, that's right - just 7. If another 7 or more individuals had been bothered to get out and vote I'd be an elected councillor right now. Being a part of a democratic nation is an honour and a privilege. But there is a duty associated with that - to take part in that democracy. After all 'democracy' actually means 'the will of the people'. I actually extend my dad's saying when I hear people criticising politics and I ask - before answering their question - if they voted at the last election? If they answer 'no' then I tell them they have no right to criticise.

I'm an external observer to the US electoral process and I see many positives to the US system, but way more negatives. My only advice to you and your friends is to not give up. The worst thing that can happen in the face of this awful, systemic attack on its own citizens is to lie down and do nothing. Make your votes count. If you have to get a bus and take you and your friends miles to get to your nearest voting station, make sure you vote. Voting apathy is the enemy of democracy. That's what Trump and his cronies are counting on - so don't let them get away with it. Pass the word. Big hugs and much support and prayers, my friend.

Agreed on both counts. But I also think the time away has been good for him, both as a person and as a comedian. Because his new special is absolutely insane.....far and away his best special ever. He has NOTHING to lose....and just goes for it 100%. It's easily one of the best comedy specials I've ever seen. Seek...it...out. And, if you can, pay for it. Give the guy his fair due.

Nowhere close. Carlin criticized all politicians. He was smart enough to see behind the curtain and all this left/right bullshit. Louis CK obviously has an agenda here, with his praising of Obama and Hillary and demonizing of Trump. Carlin would have called them all rich lying sacks of shit, republican or democrat. Carlin was much more intelligent and eloquent. One of Carlin's quotes still resonates with me to this day "Always question the perceived reality" - George Carlin The reality I perceive is now liberal vs. conservative. So I question why has such a clear dichotomy been formed amongst us? Hillary's emails, Trump's taxes, etc. All this bullshit is fed to us to keep us fighting amongst ourselves, while the elite continue to rob us blind. Just look at the comments here.
