Bernie says "Our campaign" Hillary says "Her campaign or My campaign" Fundamental difference between the two. Bernie wanted to be president for the people. Hillary wanted it for herself (like Trump). Hillary has worked in government for many years. That does not entitle her to the presidency. As I feel that's what she thinks.

1) Bernie worked in government for a lot longer and achieved less. 2) Bernie is not held to account for his actions including allowing and encouraging by never criticizing his supporters lies and attacks (based on Republican lies) against Hillary - those were never his fault, only a few misguided followers he never condemned or corrected. So, by saying our campaign, he was meaning his campaign but less being "for the people" as able to remove himself from the dirty aspects with a blind eye. 3)Hillary takes responsibility by owning her campaign, she's a bitch who only wanted power for herself. Hillary discusses parts of the campaign affected by others' actions, she's a bitch blaming everyone but herself for the campaign. 4) Bernie didn't want it "for the people" he wanted it so Hillary wouldn't get it. He'd never shown an ounce of large-scale leadership before that and was likely coached into it.

Alia Noyb maybe he's "achieved less" because he came into public service as an independent mayor and senator? And remained there for 40 years. When Hillary was campaigning for Barry Goldwater in the 60s, Bernie was marching with the civil rights movement. When Bernie defended homosexual US Military servicemen in the 90s Hillary refused to endorse same sex marriage until 2013. Which candidate ended up on the right side of history? Which one shows better leadership? 🤔🤔🤔

The contrast in Bernie's and Hillary's comments crystallise the difference between the two candidates. Hillary is still focussing on herself and her campaign, trying to wash her own hands and blame someone else, whereas Bernie uses her comments not to big note himself, but to bring up issues that matter to people. America really missed out on one of the best potential presidents since FDR.

He's got more energy than any of the other politicians who ran in 2016, including those half his age. I'm tired of the discrimination: we decry people being judged on the basis of their class, gender, race, etc, but ageism is ok? Bullshit, this is the media manufacturing consent, typical business. Bernie is perfectly capable of heading the executive branch of our country, and I trust him to appoint a VP who can carry the burden should he meet and unlikely early end (he would be well into his 80s by the end of his second term in 2028, fingers crossed)

Also, in a theoretical run in 2020 he'd be facing off against a 74-year old Trump. Who's physical fitness do you honestly have more faith in, Trump's at 74 or Sanders at 79? Even in the primaries they're trying to prop up Joe Biden who's barely a year younger than Sanders. While I like Joe Biden, if he's not too old to run for president than neither is Bernie. Yet they ask Bernie this question way more often than Biden. I wonder why...? (That's a rethorical question)
@The_RedVIII

Only Bernie Sanders will respond like that. Where other politicians would have attacked Clinton back for her attacks on them, Sanders is "adult enough" to focus on the important things ahead. There is no need in talking about "what went wrong" in 2016. Get over it. We need to look forward and keep fighting for a better future.

Hi Eric, I see your point and would like to mention that Venezuela is in no way a democratic country. Just recently Maduro stripped the parliament of its power. You currently see a corrupt regime trying everything it can to stay afloat while the people are risking their lives protesting every day against their corrupt leaders. Unlike Maduro, Bernie is proactive in fighting voter suppression for instance. What Bernie and the progressives are in favour of is democratic socialism (big difference to socialism!) similar to countries like Denmark, Sweden, Norway and, to a lesser extent, Germany. These countries are defined by an economic system where the fruits of being an industrialized nation are more evenly shared (e.g. through progressive taxes and moderate inheritance taxes) and every income bracket is growing, not just the top 1%. As a result, minimum wages and quality of life are on average way higher than those of the US (or Venezuela of course), while unemployment rates, incarceration rates as well as crime recurrence rates are among the lowest in worldwide comparison. Greetings from Germany

We have a combination of Democratic Socialism and Capitalism.

@0thepyat0 6 жыл бұрын
+polifatts Actually, they did a lot of studies that showed over and over that although many Americans' perspective is that they receive better care because they pay more, this turns out not to be so at all. Other nations who have nationalized their healthcare systems have either better care or comparable care. So, no, the USA does not have the highest quality of healthcare in the world, or the best education, or the highest quality of life, or the best colleges... It's what we desperately want to believe, but we rank low in a lot of areas, and each year we slip lower.

You know that was a lie right? Republicans started it and Bernie let it go since it helped him. She actually achieved bi-partisan agreement and legislation with at least one Republican who HATES her and always has. Bernie has been an "insider" way longer and likes to propose legislation he knows won't go through without a plan or ability to work with others to advance it. They've both done good as public servants but if you look objectively, Hillary Clinton has had the exact opposite of a shitty record. Obama was telling the absolute truth when he said she was the most qualified person ever to run. She's been constantly attacked and accused for 30+ years by Republicans and cleared each time. Prefer one candidate over another, but do it on the truth not Republican lies dude.

Saying Bernie did lasting damage is probably correct. However, everything that Bernie accused her of was not only true and supported by evidence (and therefore deserved to be said), but it was actually much milder than Hilary's desperate attacks against Bernie. He merely discussed her recent actions. She took many dirty shots, throwing sticky implications of sexism and racism with minimal evidence at every turn.

She's that bad she lost to a reality star and expected you to vote for her rather than earning your vote. She made a 1 Billion in profit in the election and is still coming off like a whinging loser. Yeah it's definitely funny in a way. Everyone in the media is talking about how Bernie should have gone softer on Clinton and he hurt her race but Kyle Kulinski, Tim Black, Jimmy Dore and a few others make a really good point that the biggest criticism of Sanders was that he wouldn't be able to take criticism from the right and would get destroyed when they started jabbing him when what we really learned is that Hillary Clinton was the *much* weaker candidate. All it took was an old man Bernie Sanders, who nobody knew about until a couple years ago, to say a couple _true_ things about her that were guaranteed to come up in any honest debate and that somehow made her entire campaign crumble. Hmm... maybe she wasn't the right candidate for the time? Just the fact that she was being investigated alone were going to seriously jeopardize her chances of winning considering it actually was a fairly serious issue that several other people having identical charges were put in prison for years just in the last few months. Clinton should have had the responsibility to know when enough was enough and call off her campaign before she did any lasting damage to Sanders (oh wait, his record is stronger than diamond). It was being predicted by the polls in 2015 she would lose a run against Trump and they showed a Sanders vs Trump run would favor Sanders by landslide amounts. When the whole country wants an anti-establishment candidate and your choices are an anti-establishment republican vs Mrs. establishment you're going to get Trump. If you run an anti-establishment democrat who is the most liked candidate in the country vs an anti-establishment republican who's the least liked candidate in the country (not to mention a literal joke) you should be able to predict the outcome. Our country is also over-due for a party relocation and you can already see people from different parties aligning with one another on very specific things . Dem and Rep people becoming anti-establishment and anti-war. And party establishment Dems and Reps aligning on maintaining the big donor system. Or you could liken it to the individuals _putting_ the money into politics, putting even more money in politics to ensure it never leaves so they have favors coming in from both sides which is what's really happening. I don't think Hillary Clinton really wants money in politics (as a concept), I think the people giving her money want her to want it to stay that way, so of course she's going to be behind it or she won't get elected. Lol I forgot how funny that is too, "The system is just like this, whoever raises the most money wins, that's just the way it is, we wish we could change it" says the person who raised more than twice the candidate she ran against and lost, and the person who didn't take any money from corporations who technically shouldn't have a chance in hell at winning almost did. Our system still works! don't think too hard about it! I'm out here trying to win over a bunch of sexists!

Democratic socialism makes everyone prosperous. Don't you want to have Sweden's economic growth, Denmark's highest happiness? The world fell into disorder - characterised by the Great Depression - because of the self-seeking behaviour of an unrestrained elite. Today, we live in the richest country in the history of the world, but that reality means little because much of that wealth is controlled by a tiny handful of individuals. America now has more wealth and income inequality than any major developed country on earth, and the gap between the very rich and everyone else is wider than at any time since the 1920s. The reality is that since the mid-1980s there has been an enormous transfer of wealth from the middle class and the poor to the wealthiest people in this country. That is the Robin Hood principle in reverse. That is unacceptable and that has got to change. There is something profoundly wrong when the top one-tenth of one percent owns almost as much wealth as the bottom 90 percent. “Just as the commandment ‘Thou shalt not kill’ sets a clear limit in order to safeguard the value of human life, today we also have to say ‘thou shalt not’ to an economy of exclusion and inequality. The elite’s capture of both the world’s wealth and the political system resulted in the impoverishment and insecurity of working people. By uniting to defend their common interests, the world’s people could throw down the power of this elite, strip it of its ill-gotten gains and pool the resulting wealth for the good of all. Order and security would be restored in the form of a protective, paternalistic state, investing in public projects for the public good, generating the wealth that would guarantee a prosperous future for everyone. The ordinary people of the land - the heroes of the story - would triumph over those who had oppressed them. The American people must make a fundamental decision. Do we continue the 40-year decline of our middle class and the growing gap between the very rich and everyone else, or do we fight for a progressive economic agenda that creates jobs, raises wages, protects the environment and provides health care for all? Are we prepared to take on the enormous economic and political power of the billionaire class, or do we continue to slide into economic and political oligarchy? These are the most important questions of our time, and how we answer them will determine the future of our country.

Now, yes more people like Sanders...since Hillary lost the general election (and Republicans still keep attacking her). But people voted for Clinton 55% to 43% for Bernie in the primary. So although she may not have had the most vocal supporters, truthfully speaking MOST people preferred her by quite a bit...in 2016. Now maybe that's because of name recognition with Clinton, or a lot of people weren't familiar with Bernie's policies, or that President Obama and the DNC preferred that Clinton win. Also, Stephen and Hillary are CORRECT...Bernie did turn some Democrats against Hillary (which incidentally Russia took advantage of in their influence campaign by encouraging Americans to support Sanders over Clinton even after he had already lost). Policy-wise Clinton was almost an EXACT clone of Obama, and Democrats love Obama. BUT that doesn't mean that Bernie shouldn't have run, because he did expand the conversation--up until Trump won. That's just the problem with the primary system. People who already agree on most things have to bash each other to point out their differences. We need a ranking system like they have in Maine where we can choose more than one candidate that we agree with. That way, if our 1st chosen candidate loses, we don't instinctively feel bias against the winner when it comes to general election (since we also chose them to run).

She lost Ohio, Iowa, and Florida. She even lost an electoral vote in Maine. Clinton did not perform as well as Obama among black, white, white woman, poor, rural/small city, Asian and hispanic voters. And she did all of this against a candidate who had extremely low approval ratings and had offended every single group imaginable, from veterans to disabled people. Her campaign will go down as the worst in history. It’s not Bernie’s fault. It’s her fault.

He sounds good to people when he mentions the benefits of socialism, like "medicare for all," and "minimum wage of 15 dollars an hour." But no.. This is a capitalist nation, there's no room for socialism here.

catt thompson You understand that statement is demonstrably false, correct. We have a mixed economy. We have a lot of capitalism, but also a lot of socialism. The police, fire department, postal service, just to name (some of) the basics are socialist programs. And Bernie isn't a socialist. He's a *democratic* socialist. HUGE difference. It's essentially the square block for the square hole for our economy. A mix of socialism and capitalism.

Kamron Isaiah Johnson okay yeah I may have over exaggerated alot when I said "there's no room for socialism here," cause there's obviously alot of socialist programs. But free college and Medicare? That's just crazy unrealistic. He really wants to radically change the U.S. economically and it's kinda scary how many people support him

Uhg, c'mon Stephen! You've got America's most beloved and influential political figure sitting on stage, at a time when America is in very real danger of collapsing into fascism, and you're trying to stoke some petty infighting?! Gross. Kudos to Bernie for not taking the bait and staying on point. THAT is how you do leadership.

natsoray that's not what Stephen was doing. That was a brilliant interview. If he was engaging in infighting he would've said that Hillary was right. Interviewing is about asking tough questions. In a world where no "pony questions" are asked, democracy would be incapable of existing. #proponyquestions #prodemocracy

Anthony Hull-Kennedy I'm not suggesting that we should shield the politicians we favor from tough questions. The conclusion you're drawing is a straw man argument. My point is at any point Colbert could have asked Bernie challenging questions about his policy proposals, because those things are relevant right now. Instead he chose to focus on a topic that stunts productive discourse, and I just find that disappointing, because I know he is an intelligent person who can do better.
@anthonyh-k6217
@anthonyh-k6217 6 жыл бұрын
It's not a straw man argument... You will most likely fail your logic exam, my friend. Late night talk shows, including the Late Show, are rehearsed. The questions asked are typically chosen by the interviewee from a set of questions provided by the interviewer.

@FungusMossGnosis

Yeah, I wouldn't expect Stephen to ask any actual policy questions to Queen Hillary. That's the difference between Bernie and Hillary. Bernie didn't make diss tracks against Hillary in his book, because it was not about them, it's about US and the future of all peoples in the world. Hillary is the perennial High School mean girl, everything has to revolve around her and her sycophants. She needs to be sent off on the proverbial ice floe, never to be heard from again in politics.

So frustrating. It's the exact opposite. As level of education increased from HS, to college, to graduate level - support for Clinton increased. Google it. The egocentrism of us humans is so obnoxious. Everyone, including me, has a nagging feeling that everyone who doesn't like what we do is "missing something" - we just got to set that aside and look at the facts.
@derekrequiem4359
@derekrequiem4359 6 жыл бұрын
contactkeithstack So are you saying that only the political opinions of people with formal education are valid? That is a very elitist view to have, as well as one of the reasons why Clinton lost. Just because some people are privileged enough to afford higher education does not mean that their views and opinions hold any more weight than those who have less formal education.

Right now, Bernie is like Jon Snow - "We need to look at the problems that threaten to destroy our realm. Forget what happened in the past. We need to stay together if we are to survive the winter." Hillary is Danaerys - "Shut up and bend the knee. I am the rightful queen and should be sitting on the iron throne!" Meanwhile in the capital, we have Donald aka Cersei sitting on the Iron Throne, making a complete mess of everything , with no real plan on how to save the realm. Add to that an unhealthy attraction towards some of his own blood relatives.

Christy Anderson Since you keep posting the same comment, so will I. No matter how many times you say it, it still isn’t true. Clinton lost Michigan (first dem to do so since 1988), Wisconsin (first since 1988), and Pennsylvania (first since 1984).
