In this video I will use the surface grinder and a couple of work holding devices to sharpen some cold chisels and center punches.

It is nice when a plan comes together. Your workmen ship and attention to detail are refreshing. Thanks

I think I was born saying "that'll never work!" But that is just keeping in step with the guy that says " that's the first thing you check!" (when you have just found the solution after hours of troubleshooting) or the fellow that repeatedly says "I know that" when the opposite is blatantly obvious. However, as simple a job as it is to sharpen some chisels and punches, it is a joy to work with those tools in top condition. No overkill here Lee, just a job and shop practice well done! Cheers!

Enjoyed the overkill. People do sometimes get emotional over the most unexpected things. Now and then I will get that sort of thing about my arbor press. I always ignore the "it wont work" folks and find out for myself. Sometimes they are right and sometimes they are wrong.

We love and only like perfection and overkill is a portion of that to us, honing the skills to be the master you are sharing it we are very happy to be here to watch this take place. This is how to grind regrind that shop chisel we mean why not as least I now who we can now call to borrow a chisel we can count on the be the most accurate and sharpest as well. We sure like your air powered tool holder in the post lathe grinder attachment wishing we could see that take place. Hello spindexer we likes that build so handy this tool is now for your surface grinder as a great attachment offering more flexibility. So please over kill away. Lance & Patrick.

It’s not overkill if you enjoyed it. Who cares what anyone else thinks. I like overkill. I also like your power feed so I’m going to make one for my Abrasive 1 1/2. I’m getting old and after a daylong grinding session My shoulder is sore for three days. Agreed, Grandpa’s chisel mushroom is special. I’d leave it also. I made a powerhead for my surface grinder from a valve resurfacer head and I need one of those adjustable plates to get angles like you are. Thanks for sharing, enjoyed 👍👍👍

I looked up the cutting angle in a old textbook and they were checking the grind with a tread gage. 60 degrees it is. When your hand tools are in good shape it make for better results and I tend to use them more often. Some of my grandfather's tools are my most prized possessions. I'm new to your channel, you have some interesting videos.

Well Lee, I don't think that's overkill at all! That's exactly how I would do it :) If you think about it, I bet the setup in the factory they were made in is awfully similar. If you're going to get like-new results, you need a good setup, and I think that's exactly what you did. Well done in my view :) It did look like a couple of those got a little hot, maybe some spray mist next time just to keep the blue away so the new edges hold up good and long. The pointy end is most vulnerable during grinding because it has the least cross-section to pull heat away, and of course that's the part that takes the cutting forces. But I bet it'll be a good while before you need to sharpen them again :)

Lee I am all for you leaving the mushroom on grand daddy's chisel, I would have done the same if I had a grand daddy.

Only a factory or high production shop could justify the cost of a machine like that. Locally "Professional" lawn mower shops grind valve tips on flat head engines freehand, spinning the valve tips against wheel to adjust too tight valves. Luckily overhead valves have screw adjustment, too bad modern men have been dumbed down to were they can't even do something that easy.

I just got home with about 100 pounds of every type of cold and wood chisels you can think of. They were my Dads and have been sitting in a box rusting for over 30 years. It would be great if I could show them to you so you could tell me what I need to know about them
