Thanks for explaining that. A couple of pianos at my university are overly bright and have almost no dynamic range. They are relatively new and pretty well looked after. Made me think that it could be hot pressed hammers that are very hard. I'll definitely be checking it out!

Hot pressed has the great advantage of being easier for a technician to maintain.

Not at all. I've worked in hammer manufacturing and have been concert technician for almost half a century.

How about Abel vs Renner hammers? I heard Abel provides a mellower tone to the piano than Renner, is this true?
