I had that same era motor XRI 200hp and at 200 hours the piston ring anti rotation pin fell out and the motor destroyed itself. Ran great until than

Is the engine very reliable or are there often technical problems? I am considering buying a boat with the same engine.

I've had 2 Black Max V6 Mercs and loved them. Easy to work on and I never had any issues I couldn't fix myelf.

looks like the moter is a hole or two low? Is she getting full revs?

I don't have this boat anymore but never had an issue hitting 5500rpm with a 17p prop.

What size prop are you running? 14"x19p?

Brendan, I see you have asked this question on a few Black Max vids. I dont know if you ever got an answer or not but here is what I have on my 1992 Black Max 150.....If I run with an aluminum prop, the one that came with the engine is size 15x17. If I use my Stainless Steel prop, the size is 14.5x17. Both props are 3 blade.

It was a 2.0L, lower cowl was from a wrecked engine
