Cold start katolight generator

The block heater was out, it was about 20f at the time.
So I replaced it and used the cold starting aid that's on the Perkins engine to get it running so the heater doesn't have to work so hard.
FIRE!!!!

Thank you much sir! I've been lax on the uploads for a while, and I really should start putting some neat mechanical stuff back up again. I'll see what I stumble across. Haha as a side note ,I guess I'll never "figure out the crowd" because this like my top 3 upload 🤣 Cheers man,happy 4th if you partake ✌️

Search "aro pornire cu flacara" or "aro starting with flame". Those are old Romanian engines which were famously started with burning rags. Especially the D127 engine which had only one "glow plug" (more like thermoinjector) in the intake manifold

Haha for sure , some of the old "starting aids" were very strange. Anything to get a little heat introduced easily for better starting !

Nah it was standard 12v. ,I just had to stay on it for a long time. It was about -10c outside and I just replaced the failed coolant heater,it was stone cold.

Those things are cool, they are just tied into the return fuel and a bimetallic opens the fuel flow from the heating element. I'd like to procure one and do some testing with it! Thanks for watchin!

Haha I brought a little on myself because I changed the fuel filter after doing the heater, hoping I'd buy a little warming time. It took off on the next try! We don't use those normally because the heater keeps it warm, and I knew I'd risk setting the air filter on fire 😂 Thanks for watchin!!

Should the fuel be always running through the glow plug as on my engine?

Even when it's running ,and there's no power at the glow plug for sure because the wire is unhooked ? Nope , it's no good. It only activates after electric power is put to it and a bimetallic switch gets hot enough to open the fuel flow thru it. If it's dribbling fuel all the time it's time to replace it.

Thanks. We bought wheeled loader (woth Perkins 3.152) and don't know how to treat them. And we have one more issue. Two small pipes coming out from camshaft chamber under the air intake are leaking. Maybe you know what they stand for? The area near the starter is filled with fuel.

I'm not sure on that, as I've only been around the ones in the video and a couple others a few times that I would know by sight,I'm not sure what fuel system that thing has if it's an injector pump or common rail or whatever. I'd check for easy stuff though, loose/missing washers on banjo fittings and/or broken cracked lines. On that glow plug to get by temporary , you could remove the line to it ,jam a hose over it and put a bolt in the end with a few hose clamps to secure it to keep running it till the new glow plug comes in.

The block coolant heater failed and it was about 15f out that morning. I replaced the heater, but wanted to get it running to take some stress off the heater. Once they have a little heat in them they start fine. And its at a wastewater plant, ive gotta be sure it runs before I leave.

I think that's the same rig as the Yanmar Thermostart system.

They don’t cost much either, Chinese ones are like 15$. Could be a fun toy for other things.

Your thermostart has a fuel feed problem. That large flame should be there well BEFORE you hit the starter.... To me it looks like the draw of air into the manifold when the starter starts turning the engine over vacuums the fuel out of the Thermostart's nozzle....and only provides flame then.... Thermostarts can work from pressurised fuel as well.. say if you have a cheap Facet style in line clicky clacky pump sucking out of the fuel tank, through the filters and then pushing fuel to the injection pump... (makes filling fuel filters after changing them...a breeze!) and you "T:" off that line after the Facet pump and before the injection pump.. so when you turn the Facet on..the fuel pressurises the line to the injection pump at the same time as the branch to the Thermostart... Then you hit the button to ignite the thermostart which having pressurised fuel squirts into the coil and ignites filling the manifold with flame...heating all the air plus the manifold metal in that area... After 15 seconds of hot flame...then hit the starter... The engine should turn over quickly and start...so switch off the clicky clacky booster pump and the Thermostart.... Job done! Marty T YT channel shows this on his vid getting the Hough30B loader running and starting well....full demo.

This thing had issues. Lift pump failed and ran it dry. Not to mention it was on generator power at the time. I got there like 6hrs later and the block heater was inop, so I replaced it. Ambient temp was around 25-30 degrees. At first I figured the no start issue was from the inop block heater, because they'll do that. After some cranking and no smoke ,I connected up a temporary electric pump(a little like the Facet ones). It still took a little while to get fuel to it ,so I was just trying to get as much air out as I could and see if it wanted to start up. It did, but it really wasn't happy without that heater to help it out.

@@MrTheHillfolk Lift pumps seem to be a problem especially on Dodge Ram diesels.... that little clicky clacky can save a lot of problems.....

Yes, I remember the early 2000s with the isb lift pump issues. I worked at a Cummins dealer at the time,, I must have changed like 200 lift pumps out on that 0504 campaign. Lose fuel pressure on those vp44 pumps and it's all over.
