The American Bladesmith Society’s guidelines for Master Smith and Journeyman Smith applicants require that (s)he cut through hanging manila or sisal rope, a minimum of one (1) inch in diameter. The applicant must sever the rope in two with one stroke to test the blade’s edge geometry and sharpness.

I want to say a thing to those interested into purchasing this: do a favour to yourself, and buy one. Despite Cold Steel higher video quality, a video doesn't do justice to this machete. Viewed in real life is incredible... looks more bigger than in a video perception. Hands down, let's be honest, this is a sword (just like the Gladius Machete) not a machete :-P By no means you will find such an higher quality for such a very honest price from others. Cold Steel deserves respect.

Oh, hell yeah. This line is purpose made for the people who want a sword of good quality, and don't want to pay the premium price of a "historical reproduced replica" with materials that don't compare to modern materials

I bought the original one years ago and took down trees as big around as my shoulders. That thing in the right hands is a monster! I wanted esee knives to be my favorite but as iv tested multiple companies production blades it seems that cold steals blades are the ones that last. Especially their spring steals

Vegeta Ki So it is useful for chopping firewood/brush/branches? Since it’s still technically a Machete, can it still be used in one-handed strikes like traditional machetes? I’m thinking about getting one for practice + fun camping duties.

@@Divine_Serpent_Geh too big for one handing, imo .. For the sake of safety I'd hold it with both hands when using it... And it might be able to do firewood? Not something I'd use a sword for.. but I suppose it would work, as long as the piece doesn't have a big ol' twist or burl in it

It still blows my mind that this is the performance of a machete. I’ve seen swords worth WAAAY more that can’t cut like that. Cold Steel machetes are the modern equivalent to the medieval blades of foot soldiers. Landscaping is just the OTHER thing they’re good for.

To be fair, this is truly a budget sword. I see no way this has any capability as an actual tool like a traditional machete. This thing is a weapon. Nonetheless, I agree, despite its “machete” construction and blade geometry, it’s cutting capabilities are quite insane.

I honestly think your machetes are better than your swords. I have seen some catastrophic failures with your Chinese and Indian swords, but every South Aftrican machete I've received has been incredible out the box.

I just purchased they're 52100 ball bearing steel survivalist and Hunter and am very impressed by it I wish Cold Steel would take a look at their original Bushman make it thicker with a different handle style worthy of stabbing with by hand

the actual two-handed chinse war sword was made to cut the leg off an enemy horse as it was charging, like a giant cleaver. this machete is not quite up to that, but it's pretty cool anyway.

Vegeta Ki Hello, it is made from 1055 carbon spring steel as all their machetes are. I have beaten the living crap out of that steel and as long as it has an improved grind (do it yourself) the steel holds up very well to abuse and is easy to fix if you do mess up the edge a bit. It is a workhorse steel that is more for robust and resiliant than hard or brittle. Totally worth. I own the gladius, barong, bowie, and parang machetes from cold steel. Personnal fav is the gladius.

We know the Chinese war sword is a hard hitter (maybe the hardest hitting sword), but would anyone use it as their sole weapon? Let's say the scenario is a no-bullets apocalypse, zombies or not. I have a Condor brand Chinese war sword. It is really nice, but, maybe too hefty and slow for a sword fight. Just asking a hypothetical question.

Why is this one $35 and the original $299? I can't notice any major differences between cutting abilities and strength between the two but the other one is like a 8 times more expensive when even the steel is the same.

Ability are the same but this versions edge don't last as long and needs higher maintenance since it can rust easier

Because this is laser cut out of a piece of flat stock (that’s not a bad thing), whereas the actual sword versions is forged, has distal taper, better handle etc. What I’m trying to say is the sword takes much more time to produce than its “machete” counterpart. Time = money.

Yup, more or less. This machete is basically "styled" upon the Dadao sword. Cold Steel btw has two "Chinese War Sword" for sale, altough the price is obviously higher than this one :-)

This doesn’t have to do with this video in particular but when you are doing the ballistics gelatin torso test you shouldn’t re use them because it gives unrealistic results you guys are a professional company and I know the ballistic torsos are expensive but if you guys are selling a product you should have accurate results
