Welcome to another survival knife comparison... That's right, we are taking a look at to well known, well loved, and very affordable outdoor knife options. The Cold Steel SRK and the Morakniv Garberg. From these two options, which will be best at what applications, and which do I recommend spending the money on? Watch to find out. The answer will be interesting.

I spent a long time looking for my first knife, one knife that does it all and couldn’t decide. I ended up getting two blades, the Garberg carbon mostly for bush craft and as a back up for the other blade, the Condor bushcraft parang which is more of a survival tool. In hindsight I think I made a reasonable choice.

This is frustrating seeing how cheap the knives are in the US compared to where I am in Australia. Currently I can buy a SRK in Sk-5 for around $110 ($76 USD) and depending on the version of the Garberg they are up around $175-$200 ($120-$138 USD) which to me takes them out of the 'budget' range. Even a Gerber Strongarm can be anything from the cheapest around $130 to $220 ($90-$152 USD) at the most expensive. Thanks for posting.

In canada too is like that, cost 2 to 3 times more, plus taxes.

How about the new Cold Steel SRK-Compact vs. Mora Bushcraft Black? Both knives have been competitively priced at around $40 on Ebay.

I think for a do all knife the SRK is one of the best out there. I paid $37 for mine. Blade length is right there to where fine tasks are easy, however batoning and chopping are still viable.

I stopped using my Garberg a while ago and have been stuck on the good old Gerber Prodigy Fine edge . I've come to favor a saber and flat grind knife over scandi blades....Unless you're carving out notches or whittling a small totem pole of yourself 😁 I really don't see much purpose for them. I'm totally happy with the Prodigy and Strongarm knives they are excellent for the money.

The SRK is more utility knife and the More is definitely a bushcraft knife . Cold Steel makes a older knife that is a mix between the two that not many people know about , it has a 5 1/2' inch clip point blade with a scandy grind and its called the Peace Maker II , it's actually a boot knife , it's made with that German 4116 Krup steel that CS uses on all their budget priced Lite Knives , I like it , it holds a decent edge , it's wicked easy to sharpen, and it's super rust resistant, a lot of kayakers and white water rafters use it for that reason and the knife only cost about $25 - $30 , check it out ...

I own both of these knives. I first purchased the SRK and loved it - Until I bought a Mora Garberg. for cutting purposes - the Mora is by far superior.

@@kotsosgr55 he just want to excuse buying a knife with shorter and weaker blade for higher price tag xD dont listen, bigger is always better if quality is similar, if he want's to do food prep or take dirt from fingernails perhaps it will be slightly better

@@MP-oj6zo I bought the mora few days back. The only thing i can think about it is that is easier to cary around. But I believe, if you truly need it, it will fall "short" in comparison to the SRK.

Did you notice a big difference in edge retention after the tests the 40 dollar srk is Aus 8 I believe or sk5.i would think the garberg would stay sharp longer.what did you notice?
@AlaskanFrontier1

In shear edge retention the SRK is better as it uses SK5 High Carbon. Basically the Taiwanese version of 1095

The srk is a great camp knife but just a little small for my taste. I prefer the KA BAR or leatherneck. I never been to Alaska but I know I would love it there. I'm just a kentucky mountain man and live 15 minutes from land between the lakes. It gets to hot here in the summer and when I started wilderness survival when I was 16 and been doing it every sense And I'm 52 now lol. Anyway here in Kentucky when I first made a friction fire with a bow n drill it took me 6 months to get my first coal because of the humidity. I worked my ass off trying to get that damn coal lol. It was the humidity the Intire time. Now it's a lot easier. What about Alaska does it get that humid there and is it easy to get a friction fire going ? Just curious incase I get to go there one day
@AlaskanFrontier1
@AlaskanFrontier1 4 жыл бұрын
Understandable. That gives me an idea... Okay Alaska is so large I can't make a blanket statement. However, the interior tends to be very dry so friction fires, like a bow drill are fairly easy. It is definitely a fun place.

Sometimes Garberg stainless knives are on sale down in the 60 and 70 dollar range. See what you guys think of the Mora Companion HD? I think they work well. Spine has to be filed for fire starting. I have both Garberg and SRK. Apples and oranges.
