Great job! I had 80 or so Cold Steels before I saw your vid, but none of the 3 you feature. After watching, though, I was convinced to get all three! I got the Holdout first, a few months back....The Counterpoint and Ti-Lite are arriving tomorrow. Thanks man...Btw...you should know, to date I have enjoyed all the content you have put out. 👍 😊

For the original Ti lite run, the aluminum handle model had the double holes milled out and the zytel handle had single milled holes, like the hold out and counter point (but with the allumunin liners) in the new runs both the zytel and aluminum have the double holes milled.

I like the Hold Out. It's a whopper. You can gravity flip open it pretty fast.

I alternate the 6” hold out with the large vaquero, both full serrations. Nothing better for a slashing attack.

The Hold Out can be easily modified to create a choil just above the thumb stud (in the direction of the blade), and centered on the pivot. This cut out can follow the shape on the tang exactly, for a much better purchase while using the knife. However, I feel that this may compromise the integrity of the pivot by removing handle material so close to the pivot. Given the DIY necessary for a reasonable secure grip, plus the expense of the premium steel I reluctantly pass on the Hold Out. Still enjoy my Ti-Lite and Counter Point. Excellent coverage of the good and perhaps unfavorable characteristics of these models. We rely on creators like you to help us in purchase decisions on knives we cannot handle ourselves, before buying. BTW as a Lefty, the Ti-Lite can be challenging to open as the thumbstud is right hand only. I can easily use the wave guard as an interim front flipper to open just as well as a thumbstud, and of course the inertia opening. 100% in lock step with your verdict. On a completely subjective note, I give the Ti-Lite the most beautiful designation of the three. Many thanks, and look forward to more of the same.

The hold out carries so well for its size it still trips me out. Fitting that much slashing power in a front right pocket just feels so good.

I've carried the Tri-Lite for many years. Mine has the 8 diagonal grooves on the handle and for small hands it's very comfortable to carry everyday. The slender blade is very intimidating when drawn, may not be the best blade shape , but has that classic stiletto shape. Great knife.

The Hold Out has the best blade, IMO. I like a full flat grind for slicing. But the Counter Point has a better handle and for that reason I carry the Counter Point more often.

its a shame that the hold out doesn't have the quillion or snag to quick deploy with pants pocket, that would check all the boxes for somebody that's looking for long, no nonsense light weight folding knife.

You can just fit a snaggletooth to it and that would solve it.

I have and have carried all three. All, great knives in their own right. My favorite? Don't have one lol. It depends on which one I choose for the day, or week! As far as the liner lock on the Ti Lite, from the video's I've seen, it's the absolute BEST liner lock out there. It doesn't sway my decision to carry it in one way or the other. Like I said, all three great knives. And the Ti Lite for lefty's, I use the quilion as a top flipper! Works pretty well once you get the hang of it... Great video M.

The Ti-Lite is best for self defense because it can be used with the blade out or in. You can easily beat the daylights out of a person with the blade retracted. If you don't want to kill an assailant, use it with the blade tucked away. All three knives are great, but the Hold Out is the best. I've got several in CTS-XHP and a couple in AUS8A. I carry a Ti-Lite for self defense. Cuts just fine.

For the Holdouts intended design, thrusting will be just fine. You want to pierce wood or some other dense media maybe not. Like i said for the intended cutting piercing media for the Holdout thrusts will be fine

This is a really good showdown. Cold Steel's absolute best spear point stiletto-style folders duking it out for blade supremacy. I love the look of the Counter Point the best but it looks like the Hold Out or Tri Lite would be the easiest to comfortably carry as an EDC blade.

I carry my Counterpoint more than the ti lite, but I don't have a hold out. I think the hold out would be better because it's slimmer. The counterpoint is way better for daily tasks. I don't really think of it as a defense weapon though except maybe in an extreme emergency such as I'm out of bullets
@BigDaddySwingingMeat

@@__tacocat__ I have all 3 (and will soon be buying the limited edition bowie-style Lynn Thompson signature Ti-Lite) and they are all based on famous knife designs. The Ti-Lite is modeled after a traditional Italian Style Stiletto/Switchblade, the Hold Out is modeled after a traditional Scottish Dirk, and the Counter Point modeled after the traditional military combat dagger. I would recommend adding a quick draw Snaggletooth to it if you ever think you may carry it for self defense.

@@BigDaddySwingingMeat but which one do you have in your pocket more? I have a snaggletooth on my CP XL, as well as a few other of CS's XL folders, it is handy for sure. The three that ride in my pocket the most are the CP XL, Talwar, and Voyager XL clip point (also with snaggletooth)

@@__tacocat__ My "current" EDC carry is small can of POM pepper spray with a clip, a Kimber K6s 357 magnum, and a Spyderco YoJumbo with a quickdraw 5X5 pickpocket accessory but I do sometimes switch my EDC up out of boredom though. 😆 I love Wharncliffes the most because I agree with Michael Janich that they do the most slash damage in a self defense scenario.

@@BigDaddySwingingMeat I kinda want the serrated kris blade, but just because it looks awesome. I doubt it would ever get carried since it's basically useless except for defense, and I don't need it for that

i only have a 3" hold-out and not the big one, but i think the handle is equally wide on all hold-out models? anyway, i don't find the handle comfortable, i have relatively big hands and the knife just hasn't enough surface to grab. the blade shape is fantastic for edc though! the ti-lite (i have the 6" clippoint signature one) is somewhere in the middle, definitely better to grab but what bugs me here is the fact that you can't switch the clip to the other side. the counterpoint has the best handle in my opinion, i like this one really much.

I noticed that the Ti lite is a bit longer on the blade than the other two. My Counterpoint XL measures 5 9/16" and my Ti lite is a true 6". I dont have the Hold Out, yet. What measurements do you have on these?
@MannixKnives
@MannixKnives 8 ай бұрын
I no longer own the Counter Point XL or the Ti-Lite 6", unfortunately, but even original manufacturers' websites' specs are often slightly incorrect. If you're measuring from the very top of the handles, you can be more sure it's an accurate reading. Also keep the cutting edges in mind.
