Two preserved Royal Navy Blackburn Buccaneer attack planes escorted by Gloucestershire Police cars and motorcycles through Gloucestershire, UK
The Blackburn Buccaneers were being transported by Leicester Heavy Haulage from Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire to Costwold Airport in Gloucestershire, near Cirencester, for preservation and display purposes on behalf of the Buccaneer Aviation Group. They were 16.5m Long, 5.95m Wide, 4.57m High and weighed 15 Ton each according to @LeicesterHeavy on Twitter: / 1296489561846157313
The Blackburn Buccaneers served with the Royal Navy during the Cold War. They were designed to attack Soviet Union ships at low altitudes, making them undetectable by radar. They could use conventional weapons or deploy nuclear weapons for their attack. They were in service with both the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force from 1962 to 1994, when they were retired following the end of the Cold War.
Gloucestershire Constabulary (Police) handled the last-leg of the transport from the M50 junction with the M5 (Jct 8) to Cotswold Airport via the Air Balloon Roundabout, Cirencester and Kemble in the County of Gloucestershire. The force's Specialist Operations unit used their BMW R1200 motorcycles and a BMW X5 for the escort, as well as using two demonstrator vehicles on loan to the force; an electric powered Mitsubishi Outlander and a Ssyangyong Rexton.
