Let's play the campaign in Cold Waters, a Cold War-era submarine combat simulation game by Killerfish. We'll play through a modern conflict between the U.S. and China in the year 2000 in the world's elite submarine: the Seawolf class (depicted in thumbnail).

Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.
You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay.

"Counter-Flooding" is flooding to balance a listing ship. You are looking for "De-Watering." Such as, "let's get to a depth where we can start dewatering."

Seawolf: *Gets back to Guam* Tortuga: "Man, what a run it was. Time for the beach!" Also Tortuga: Gets "promoted" and sent to another ship immediately like the German U-boat aces of old. (Let's be real, this is practically CV6 levels of DamCon, but she's probably not returning very soon, considering how fast paced the war is)

Wiat, if you remember from the first series fanalie, that Russian sub had a test depth of 2000 ft, but the deepest is 1914 ft. The history channel: aliens...

You really need an AA gun on there. Worked in WW2, should work now! Two or three moments in this episode alone where you could have used one to take out some hostile air assets

In one of the upcoming videos, I launch my TASM pretty much directly through a helicopter. Sadly it doesn't do anything =(

they where phased out for a reason, they where ineffective, the french are looking at equipping subs with SAMs but a single SAM missile is easily dodged and spoofed, if you want more than a single missile, you need a purpose built SAM launcher, which also comes with a big sign attached screaming "I AM OVER HERE" and a very expensive bill along with less room for other weapons

When using a towed array, you shouldn't have "baffles". The towed array is behind your prop and should be able to hear things behind you. Or at least, so I've always understood lol.

That's correct, in fact you have somewhat of a forward baffles (the area in front of your submarine that your propeller washes out the signal going to the towed array). This isn't true if you are going too fast to use the towed array (I think it's modeled as greater than 10 knots in this game, but don't quote me on that)

I'm currently on my first playthrough and this sub looks a lot like mine lol. I'm trying to intercept the landing force on my first mission and I'm at around 20% hull, have taken 3 torpedoes and depth charges, and my radar mast is broken at extention because I had to try to evade a torpedo and didn't get it in. Great episode man ;)

I mean i suck ad the easiest campaign and rarely knew what i was doing and just panicing my way trough and you are going trough the hardest campaign and it looks... not easy but totally doable . I love the atmosphere of the game , eventhough i sucked and had a "semi bad time" (the UI really needs some improvement if one isnt so keen to learn 200 hotkeys) the atmosphere made it a very enjoyable game.

The hull damage has a second bite, I think. Not 100% sure if it's modeled, but water rushing past damaged areas would make a little extra noise. inb4 you have a time-sensitive mission waiting more than a day for repairs and rearming....

Yeah, absolutely that would be true (but also not sure if it's modeled). I rewatched this episode before airing, and man I was really taking her way too deep with 50% damage.

Are American submarines abnormally durable? I notice tortuga just eats torpedoes but Soviet subs nearly anyways sink after one hit.

There are a couple of things at play, but mostly it's the fact that I'm being hit by lightweight aerial torpedoes. We have a discussion about this later, and suspect that even one of these would be a one-hit kill, so this is just generous game mechanics.

Hello Puka campign so far. At one point you mis ID'd a ship, just around the time of the amphib group bit.......(getting use to new comp, so may have to go back and re watch previous ones now lol)

I will probably misidentify several ships here and there. Thankfully, the sonar crew will override my classification if they confirm something else.

You should try getting better at firing strategies. For example giving fake directions with your torpedo bearing. The game simulates this too. If you fire 3 torpedos directly in line with your sub they will figure out more easily where you are. You could really throw your target off when using this tactic in combination with a moss. ;)

I will do this eventually in this series. Unfortunately torpedo dodging is so easy in this game that I rarely take the time to mislead my adversary (a shame).

Why do Americans pronounce buoy wrong? It's so distracting me, isn't it pronounced as the first syllable in buoyant...? Boo-ee sounds so childish 😂 Loving the series man!

Where you hail from, do they pronounce this word like "boy"? Americans have a lot of unique pronunciations, and even unique pronunciations to specific regions here. Language develops as it likes, I guess.

@@TortugaPower I'm from the UK, I've just never heard the Boo-ee prononciation before that's all, just taking me some time to adjust. Yes here we pronounce it as boy but more like boi, just the first syllable of buoyant basically. I'd suck on a US sub, I'd giggle everytime they dropped a sonar buoy because id want to squeeze the captains cheeks and call them cute 😂

Same reason the british mispronounce anything that begins with "sch", like "schedule". "shed-u-ool" sounds like an effeminate hairlip is speaking. The correct pronunciation is "ske-jul".
