Tourne makes a cold weather camper van. It is a young campervan brand, born in Slovenia yet designed for the demanding climate and tastes of the Scandinavian market, The level of standard equipment on the campervan includes awning, towbar, reversing camera, additional floor heating and extensive insulation.
Tourne has designed its camper with the most practical (and popular) layout, with a transverse double bed in the rear (measuring 190 x 140 cm), a front living room plus a kitchen and a toilet/shower in the central cabin area.
The rear bed can also be transformed into a large load compartment. This is still accessible when the bed is being used thanks to a sliding panel separating it from the living area. The sleeping area is equipped with loudspeakers and two USB sockets. And users can adjust both the intensity and tint of the lighting - even while in bed.
The lounge and dining area creates a sociable seating space for five people thanks to the comfortable swivelling armchairs. The dining area can be converted into a second double bed thanks to Tourne’s "Dream4" system, making it a proper four-berth campervan.
The kitchen has drawers mounted on oversized roller tracks to run smoothly and handle capacities of up to 60 kg. It also has a 90-litre compressor fridge, plus a stainless steel dual-burner cooker and sink.
The bathroom is made of a robust thermoformed moulding and in the shower has a transverse rod for hanging wet clothes.
Tourne uses a hybrid heating system with a Webasto Evo 4kW diesel heater, with a Whale gas hot water system. Both are located under the floor so they are protected and don’t steal living or storage space on board.
For insulation, 33 mm Armaflex foam mats are used on the walls, ceiling, wheel arches, inside doors and inside the frame uprights. The vehicle floor is also insulated and has a memory effect, so it feels soft, but resumes its natural shape after being walked on.
A robust HDF laminated panel is used to cover the kitchen worktop, table and wall unit doors. The wall units are self-supporting and ventilated; and since the units are fixed to the supports they are also easily removable if desired.
Furniture parts are cut by an adjacent joinery. Double-insulated glass windows are flush with the bodywork and fitted with both mosquito nets and blinds (Dometic-Seitz S7). Skylights are installed as standard over the living and sleeping areas. The wardrobe has an adjustable shelf system to maximise storage.
Both the fresh and waste water tanks hold 100 litres, and are positioned under the insulated floor, with the fresh water heated by the hot air ducting.
The LPG cylinder pressure regulator is equipped with an anti-collision valve that interrupts the gas flow in the event of an impact; and an on-board device reveals any possible gas leaks or fumes.

Globecar/Possl do a 3rd bed option like this too but it's a separate folding bit of wood, so the idea is common (and works well!!) but the design very neat, tempered only by the inevitable row of shoes by the side door may get in the way of the pull-out when making it.

This has for me the most aesthetically pleasing interior of any Van you have shown Alan Although I,ve only seen the film once the impression I have is of a high level of design and execution. Bed board with circles perforating high end birch/ash ,thereby lessening weight and providing circulating air for healthy mattress. The kitchen extension used all the space possible and actually gave a working kitchen top, cabinets that seemed seamless flat shapes +a. Really useful level of insulation . Needless to say but I,d welcome more ,many thanks Alan.

What a great van, lovely simple yet functional interior - love the bathroom, clever 3rd person bed, diesel heater is good (but can be electric hungry?) and the insulation is fantastic. The carpet will help with heat too - perhaps any similar van can have electric underfloor added in a underlay/heater/carpet sandwich for when on mains? The Peugeot 2.0 Adblue 160Bhp motor is fab (I have it) - amazing economy and bags of power for hills + a quiet 2000rpm cruise at 100kmh that copes well with hills. It's the other end of Clever than the Clever 540 - a fantastic budget van but with the same smart ideas and crisp execution. Also note a van designed for the cold will also be very good in the heat too!!! I was surprised not to see a curtain to cut off the cab area, a big source of heat loss via the windows, some C classes have a good curtain around that.

Graham, I think that for the front, one needs to buy specialised outer window insulation. The price for the good stuff can be very expensive!
@G-ra-ha-m
@G-ra-ha-m 4 жыл бұрын
@@VanlifewithAlan The outer window insulation is by far the best solution while it's on there, but having to store the cold wet cover before setting out is not so good!

@@G-ra-ha-m Unfortunately Graham that is one of the problems of vanlife. However whereas the cover may be cold and wet, by the time the vehicle gets moving and with heat inside, it will dry out in the garage.

They are very good looking vans with the paintwork, wheel arches and wheels all blinged up. And the flush fitting windows. I retire in 1 1/2 years and have a little money coming my way but these prices are way out of my league. Who can afford these vans today?
@VanlifewithAlan

That is a good theme for a video - especially as I was a financial journalist and later was in real estate finance. Like many things, it is not a question of hard cash on the table but installments. However what you ought to be looking at, in my opinion, is a used model. Also, what does your partner think? Is she going to go along with it?
@G-ra-ha-m
@G-ra-ha-m 4 жыл бұрын
The Clever 540 van starts at around €34k, the cheapest I have seen. Sometimes buying in Europe is cheaper too. I had the same issue and looked at it in these ways: 1. If you get a well regarded make/model of van for a good price depreciation can be very low. 2. New vans are expensive, but have no MOT for 3 years, are warranted for 2 years and need nothing spending on them because the fluids, tyres, exhausts etc are all new + they are the most economical of all vans. They also have the modern stuff like TPMS, cruise, A/C, ABS etc. Peugeot based vans are good to look at as Peugeot is discounting to gain market share - that means a 160BHP Peugeot can cost less than a 130BHP Fiat. Fiat, Citroen and Peugeot all make these Sevel class vans in the same factory. 3. DIY can _seem_ cheaper if you look at the money you spend and discount your own time ...but selling and trading in is not as straightforward as a known make/model. Another thing to consider if you plan to spend a lot of time holidaying in a van is to downsize your house (as you'll use it less) and even perhaps move nearer the start point of your holiday trips. If you are going to be adventurous in your Sevel van I'd also suggest the Maxi chassis with 16" wheels because you get greater ground clearance, bigger brakes and a tougher chassis - to specify from new usually isn't that much (£500 for Globecar IIRC). You cannot upgrade this later BTW, 16" wheels do not fit onto 15" hubs of the Lite chassis.

Hey Alan, thanks for mentioning the insulation and the heating which I think is an important part of the vehicle if you want to go away in the winter. These vans seem perfect for me. Why are you building your own van when the companies make a far better job? I’ve thought about doing it myself as I have the skills. But I’ve seen so many self van builds that just don’t come out anywhere near as good as a proper company made one. I know one can build a van for a fraction of the cost but they are never as good. I’d be interested in following your self build. Also I thought you would have had a nice campervan by now, with your insight into the game. I am in two minds as to self build of buy an already built factory one.
@VanlifewithAlan
@VanlifewithAlan 4 жыл бұрын
If you do it yourself the biggest advantage is that you get the van you want, the layout - even the outer colour. It is cheaper because if you buy a used van then you do not have the cost of the new base vehicle. I am doing it as I am pursuing it as a potential business. As for what would be better, it is hard to say. A company which builds vans every day, clearly has the experience and knows the short cuts. The problem is with videos that I do, is that the viewers only see the cosmetic part, the final part - but don't get to see some really important things such as the wiring, the plumbing, the insulation or even the chassis!

Alan, forgive me are there any videos of your mercedes? Also with the insulation is that not standard practice on uk models? Finally under normal circumstances can you order a PVC like you would a VW Ocean, rather than what a stockist has ordered themselves? Sorry if they're stupid questions to you, just trying to gain a better knowledge for my van
@VanlifewithAlan
@VanlifewithAlan 3 жыл бұрын
There are videos of my Mercedes but empty so they are not much use! There are no UK vans which use this insulation that I know of. A dealer might order vehicles on speculation if they have a lot of spare cash but it is a risky policy. Normally you see a van, order what you want with the options you want and then wait a very long time.
@sontaranlee3369

Thanks for that, with the VW Ocean, Marco polo there's always discount to be had either through the dealer or autoebid, drive the deal etc. I know both of these pretty much class them both as cars but have you heard of anything similar with PVC or motorhomes or is it there's the price, that's what you pay

When they insulate the floors of these van conversions do they put the insulation on top of the original van floor? If so I guess that means the floor is higher than the original van floor.

I have a similar sized basin in mine (but on the same side as the toilet), it's actually really handy having a fixed reasonable size basin. I spotted a tambour door - without a shower curtain getting in the way it would be usable I think, shower curtains are quite restrictive IME.

The thing is all the manufacturers designed their products basically all the same, especially the layout, not much difference. Most of us viewers watching through video dreaming and imagining how it would be to stay in one of those van, that's the main purpose we click to see. I'm not blaming you Alan, its not your fault. but I began to find other self-build conversion much more interesting, more variety. Perhaps this feedback you can pass on to them, just an average viewer's opinion that's all~

Katerina I think this one is very original in two respects. The first is the insulation, I cannot show it as it is hidden but no-one else is using it - as I point out in the video I came to the same conclusion independently on the value of this type of insulation. The second is the front bed layout using the furniture. Personally I think putting four sleeping places in such a tiny van is pointless but it is original!
