Concern? For Caufield? Bahahaha. Hes a lock for 35+ next year. This guy scored 28 goals on 8% Shooting. If he shot like 22-23 he would be at 56 goals. He came off of a shoulder surgery. Everyone could tell that he was streaky. Thats not how he is. Hes a consisent goal scorer who had the combination of shoulder surgery (Causing him to change his game) Improving his overall defense (Causing him to play less offense) He was an unlucky player (Aka robbes a lot of goals) And the most of all; He is basically in his sophmore season. I mean i guess 21-22 was technically his first year but his first 30 games he registered a single goal. I think the next 82 games are a better sample for his rookie year where he actually got played. So. Why does this matter? Because most players u23 in their sophmore season; slump.

I'm firmly against the idea of bringing Zegras to Montreal. And that doesn't take anything away from the fact that the team needs offense. I just think there are (or there will be) better and most of all cheaper options, both in terms of return and contract-wize, outhere to add some offense to this team. Just because Zegras might be available, it doesn't mean he's the right fit and the right player to bring in.

@@31thefranchise I'll give you the chemistry with Caufield (although that hasn't been proven at the next level). But cheap contract ? Almost $6.0m per for half a point per game this year. Young ? Plenty of young players rumored to be available, from Necas to Rossi, from Kent Johnson to Cole Perfetti...some intriguing reclamation project (ala Newhook) like Holtz or Krebs. Most of those players wouldn't cost as much as Zegras to acquire and re-sign.

Lego...it's zEEEEEEgras..... Anyway, he is going to pass 70 points next season so I hope the Ducks keep him. His ceiling is also higher than that. No reason to trade for what you already have. His two way game was improving toward the end of last season as well. Still needs work, but he is young and has time to work that out. Next season is going to be a bit of a breakthrough for him.

I don’t mind the idea of Zegras (the potential of him), if the price is not hurting the future of the team (by not removing important pieces and picks). I think he can definitely be a spectacular, entertaining and even a productive player, but not someone you build a line or franchise around. (A bit like Drouin, except younger and not mentally “broken” yet). If any coach can get him going and playing right, it would be Martin St-Louis. To get him, because of his age and potential, It would need to be a package of picks and prospects. If its this years Winnipeg’s pick (late first round) and a prospect that is in the same mold as others is enough to get it done, that could be interesting (there are a lot of smaller players in the prospect pool, and also a lot of defensemen of similar abilities). So to name a few, Harris, Struble, Barron, Engstrom ,Beck, Kidney, Farrel, Mesar, Kapanen. Any of these packaged up along with a pick, would not hurt the teams progress too much, but still be interesting value to a young team like Anaheim. That said, I would still be sad to see some of them leave, because of the upside some have. (Beck, Mesar, Engstrom). If there is interest from MTL, they will find a way, if their scouting sources (and Caufield, who knows him probably well enough to vouch for him) say there is some upside yet to discover, that would probably help. Hopefully he does not do to well in the international tournament, so his value remains the lowest its probably been since he’s in the league. If Anaheim is ready to move on because of the roster they have, picks they will make (#3 overall this year, could fetch a replacement for Zegras, meaning they could be tempted even more easily to trade him)
@CharlesPatrick61
@CharlesPatrick61 10 күн бұрын
Why not look at Montreal trading Caufield to Anaheim to get Zegras going. They could continue where they left off playing in the US Junior program. It’s obvious they have chemistry. Anaheim may get Caufield for their 3rd overall pick and rather than waiting a couple of years for a draft pick to develop, Caufield is already there and ready to take the next step forward.

Price to get Zegras is too high for what he is worth, not to mention what will he sign for? Will he want a 9m long term contract? Is he worth that? If he ends up being a 80/90pt player then yes, but he is still not what the Habs need. We already have too many smallish players with Caufield and Newhook, and even Suzuki is not that big (although he is tuff as nails). Slaf will be a monster in a few, and Dach should get stronger as well. I think if we add a solid top 6 in this upcoming draft (Lindstrom perhaps), then we should be fine for our top 6 anyway. We have Suzuki, Slaf, Caufield Dach, Lindstrom, Roy or Newhook 3rd line Beck, Anderson, Roy or Newhook (Dvorak until Beck is ready) That leaves 4th line with a bunch of players including Armia, Gallagher, Pezetta, Ylonen, Mesar, Xhekaj (Florian), Heineman , etc

Why not wait a while and see what happens with F. Messar and O. Beck. I just don't team first vibe from Zegras. I want solid two way play not a player that has the potential to score 35 goals and is minus 25 on the season
@4u2nvHock3y
@4u2nvHock3y 11 күн бұрын
Filip Mesar and Owen Beck are both probably gonna be 3rd liners who have solid two way game. Probably both around the 15g 25a per season range to 25g 25a per season range. But Zegras already has hit better offensive totals then those in his year 1 and year 2. I think with the amount of talent and offense this guy has its safe to say he's still an elite forward while I dont know if I can say that for the other 2. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Meser is the next Gordie Howe. But I don't think so.

He isn't. Holtz is there Perfetti is there Macielli is there Necas is there. But im still a fan of him. He's not a guy who abuses the 2-1-2 system like Marner for his offense and had 2 60+ point seasons in y1 and y2. I think 75+ points a season isn't crazy. Along with being on the highlight reel and being a personality and having connections with our players. That's also important. As long as the cost is reasonable like Barron and the Jets first. I think Okay! Let's get him
