I lost my dad in 2008 due to cancer at the age of 46 (he was so young). He didn't like cell phones so he shared with my mom, but I do have moments that I wish I could call him up. Things like when each of my kids were born were a little bittersweet because they will never know him this side of Heaven.

That sigh at 3:41 said everything... I lost my dad just over a year ago.. He didnt have the best health but he wasnt visiting the hospital unless he needed.. Covid attacked all his weak points and less than a week he was gone... I know i said i love him before i left the last time i saw him... But its been so hard not having him to go to when things get tough... And theyve been tough lately... Probly the smartest person i knew becausehe was always teaching himself things.. He could fix anything, and if he couldnt he would research it and figure it out... Im so glad i learned so much from him but i still have so much to learn.... I wish i could talk to him about whats going on in my life and make jokes and make fun of each other..... Its been a rough year without him.....

I remember the last time I called my father, I was 18 and I had lost contact years before when He and Mom divorced and he was effectively removed from my lie and he and mom never talked. It was his birthday and he was out to dinner but they took my number and he called me back after a while. I treasure that one call, it gave me so much and I know it meant a lot to him as well. He died a year or so later from a massive sudden Heart Attack, he was only 43. Don't wait, pick up the phone and make the call....

i still call dads old number almost a decade later it started before his phone was disconnected just so I could hear his outgoing voicemail message. but then it got reassigned to an old lady, who now calls me every year on my birthday and Christmas. even sometimes just to see how I'm doing. it was funny a few years ago, i flew back home landed turned on my phone and there was a voicemail. so i called her back we chatted a bit I apologized for missing her call that I was on a plane, she asked where I was going so I told her she sent her granddaughter to pick me up at the airport and we went to see her. now whenever I fly home I make sure to see her first. she still tries to set me up with her granddaughter which id do in a heartbeat but i live a thousand miles away I've done long-distance but then i could hop on a bus for $100 and 6 hours round trip and visit for a weekend. not $475 and 4.5 hours round trip in flights and they are best friends so its not like she could just move in with me i still talk to dad example, yesterday i was trying to hang a cabinet in my shed. only having use of one hand i was getting frustrated and ready to give up. i swear i could hear his voice say go have a smoke and chill out. while i was having my smoke i was looking at the cabinet and tasked dad to help me figure out how i was going to do it. and a dandelion fluff fell through my vision and there it was a bike lift, jack stand, paint cans, and a jack and it clicked set that up put the cabinet on top and raise the cabinet up together and screw it in and it worked. After 3 hours of me fighting it i have a smoke and go back at it and it was up in 5 minutes.

Thank you so much for your testimony, genuine as always. I didn't imagine your dad's illness was so bad. And how brave he must have been to carry it all along , not letting his heart or spirit die. This Christmas I was all alone in my bed, killed by my fibromyalgia once more, and couldn't find the strength to take the train to go to my mom. It was pretty hard, but your story helps me . The hardest part for me is to be isolated socially because of constant exhaustion. And sometimes people just don't realize the burden I carry because it's not striking, what I mean is that I can move normally, and for that reason a lot of people think I'm all right. But inside my body I feel like I'm 90 years old. Anyway... thank you for sharing a part of your life. I know your dad must be proud of the man you have become.

This one hit me hard, too. I always find myself thinking that I need to call my dad to ask about something or check on him. Old habit. Everyone who's dad is still here, tell them that you love them. They may need to hear it and it might need to be said. Don't let old hurts get in the way. Another great review, Birdman!!

I couldn't agree more. I found an old tape of my Dad talking before his voice was completely gone due to ALS. I made it digital and have it on my phone. And I made copies for my niece and nephew who never got to hear his actual voice. ALS destroys your muscles, so he was unrecognizable unless you knew how to understand him. I gave it to them for Christmas. My niece has heard it, but won't tell me how she reacted (I already know). My nephew hasn't had the guts to listen yet.

Unfortunately not every parent, for their own selfish reasons, do not choose to have a relationship with their children. I love my dad but he chooses not to be in my life and I have tried multiple times to reconcile but he never responds and I feel it has a lot to do with the woman he is married to because of her attitude towards me. My hope is that one day he will change his mind but I have given this heartache to God and I lean on Jesus as my heavenly Father to fill the void in my life. I pray that I will be able to see him and have a relationship with him again before he dies.
