I love that Cole is introducing "Heads Carolina", as well as Jo Dee Messina, to a whole new generation of fans with this song. I was a little girl when her original version came out, and this re-imagining just shows how timeless it is. Hopefully, this will go to #1, and I'm glad Cole got Jo Dee's blessing, as well as the writers of "Heads Carolina" (Mark D. Sanders and Tim Nichols).

As cool as this song is, can you imagine how much cooler it would be if the song was sang from the point of view of the guy from the original song? That is what I originally thought the song was about, and, not going to lie, I was a little disappointed when I discovered he was just referencing the original song, as opposed to placing himself into the original song. Though, like I said, with a few viewings I came to appreciate this song in its own right.

What I think is so awesome is how this song not only references the original, but also has the original superimposed in the background toward the end. I'm not even a big fan of country, and I absolutely love what they've done with this song.

I just heard this for the first time on the radio on my way back from the gym. I seriously had "Heads Carolina, Tails California" in my workout mix I was listening to just a few minutes prior. One of my all-time favorite country songs. Always been a Cole Swindell fan but this is some next-level awesomeness! Can't stop just hitting repeat and smiling :)

@ashley1994 To each their own. I like a mix of mainly older country and 80s rock when running. Jo Dee Messina was in the mix between Def Leppard and Faith Hill. Of course, lots of good stuff today too. Big Cole Swindell fan, and hearing him do this remake of one of my favorite country songs of all time is so awesome I just don't have words for how much I love it!

I literally got chills, also. This is awesome I want to hear more classic country incorporated into new songs. The entire scene Cole described leading up to the lyrics from Jo Dee's song are great imagery and a cool way to put a mix on classic song.

In 2014 on my 2nd date with my now husband, in Ohio, Heads Carolina Tails California came on and I got super excited because I love that song. He just kind of chuckled. I forced the why out of him, and he said back when this song came out, he had said something like how his future wife was gonna be that girl/love that song. We've been married 5 years, and we live in South Carolina now.

"Bro country", Sir I think you mean Hick-Hop aka Rodeo Rap, and Yee-Haw Pop. 😂🤠 I maintain the trend kind of started with Rascal Flatts in the 90's making Country more pop-like, but boy do I miss the flare and twang from that era. Though Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith had some rock n roll to their style, Alan Jackson has a classic and timeless sound to him that was more true to the tradition.

@@RickGrimes807 oh buddy I could make a list a mile long. 5 O'Clock Somewhere is an Alan Jackson classic but so is Chatahoochee and Pop A Top, Tracy Byrd had Watermelon Crawl, Toby Keith has MANY famous songs, hell my own mother described him as an AMAZING entertainer so for him you want How Do You Like Me Now? Good As I Once Was, I Wanna Talk About Me, but if you want to go even older into country, you'll want to listen to George Straight, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash. Oh, some famous female singers of the time include Reba McEntire, Jo Dee Messina (love her), and some others, and I'd be an idiot if I forgot to mention Shania Twain! The truth is you'll have to do some digging but most anything George Straight is good, Randy Travis too! John Michael Montgomery, Kenny Chesney, and a few others had some love/romance ballads from that time period that were well known and I consider to be country such as "I Can Love You Like That" and "You Had Me From Hello". Rascal Flatts of course has Prayin For Daylight, These Days, Every Day Love, etc, they performed for 20 years and broke up in 2020, but they were a significant part of my playlist my whole life.

90s Country WAS THE BEST. I STILL prefer it to anything afterwards. So lively and creative. The early 2000s was similar. But the more modern stuff all sounds the same. All the fun loving and playful songs are gone too. I miss the verity.

I always considered “Heads Carolina, Tails California” one of “our” songs since I moved to South Carolina with him after we started dating (he joined the Air Force and was stationed in SC). Anyways, I love this “his” version and was completely surprised when I heard this!! This is great! Cole Swindell has been one of my top 5 faves since he came out. 😃😃😃👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😻😻😻

I just heard this song on my way to work on Sirius Xm this morning, it has made my day! Once I got to work I listened to this song here, then Jo Dees original! It's going to be a 90's Country music type of day for this 42 year old! 90's music was simply the best, all genres, so many great artist! Thank you for this new spin but keeping the original sound!

@ashley1994 the 2010s it was gone for a long time, replaced by the stadium country that was to bring the likes of George Strait and Garth Brooks out of retirement to steer country back the right way. Wasn't until late 2010's that the 90s sound started making its way back

Holy smoke, has it been 27 years? The original is still too "fresh'" in my mind to think of as an "old" song, but there it is.... And it's not exactly and "Easter Egg", being in plain sight. Still, Cole, it's genius, and a nice touch, nice nod. BTW, the story/plot of this version is brilliant, and one can't help but wonder -- based on a true story?
