I'm a reactor myself. Love your channel bro. A little behind the scenes on this...when he walked up to his father's grave, that emotion was real. While he was at the funeral, that was the first time he saw his father's headstone. Really adds to the realness of this video. Oh, and call your Dad. Lost my Dad 5 years ago...let me tell you. Call everyone. Never wait to tell someone you love them. You never know when it might be your last chance.

A teenage patient I had years ago had tickets to one of his concerts. The day of the concert she was hit by a drunk driver. She had broken bones all over her body along with a brain injury. She had to go through physical therapy for years. Once she was well enough her boyfriend desperately tried to get ahold of Cole to tell him her story. He was so moved by her story he gave him backstage passes. When he met her he gave her his personal cell phone number and took hers down. To this day he always lets her know when he will be back in town and gives her free tickets. He checks on her often to see if she needs anything. He is a wonderful human being. Call your Dad dude. I speak to my parents every single day. They're my best friends.

He did write this for his father. Shortly after the video of Cole telling him that he had signed with Warner, his father died in a work accident while Cole was out on tour. He didn't get to see all of the success his son has accomplished since then. "The song is the title track of Swindell's second album You Should Be Here. The song was written as a tribute to his father, who died unexpectedly while Swindell was out on his radio tour in September 2013, shortly after Swindell had signed a record deal with Warner Music Nashville.[2][3] According to CMT News, Swindell's father, William Swindell, died unexpectedly "when a truck he was working on fell on him." ~Wikipedia

This year marked 30 years since we laid my father to rest in Arlington. He grew up an orphan, went into the Army Air Corps (Army Air Force) 10 months before Pearl Harbor. He named me for his big brother who fought alongside Audie Murphy, my Uncle paid the ultimate price just before WW II ended. I know that there were many times in dad's life he had the sentiments from this song about his brother. Dad never knew his father. One thing I feel this song portrays is that there is life after loss, yes it hurts, yes there are moments missed, but loving and grieving them is best answered by living well to honor them.

On Feb 20 of this year, there was an explosion at a factory here in Cleveland, and my brother was the only casualty of that explosion. He was 46. I've always been a county fan. Always loved this song, but it has a whole new meaning now. This one, along with "Drowning" by Chris Young and "Give Heaven some Hell" by Jamey Johnson. Those are great songs as well.

I lost my dad in 2010 and then just lost my mom 3 months ago. Both of them weren't expected and was out of the blue. Devastating, because now I'm totally alone and raising my children by myself with no support. I miss my parents so bad so anyone who still has yours, count yourself blessed.

April, I’m so very sorry that both of your parents are gone now but keep reminding yourself that they are in a better, happier, place and you will definitely be with them again make no mistake about that. I could tell you my rock solid reasons why I know this but you don’t know me so suffice to say, you will be together again.❤️

I also am sorry to hear of the loss of your parents I Know it's something that we expect to happen at some point in our lives but not when we're Young and still need them. I lost my mom 21 years ago right after the Birth of my second Child she stayed with us long enough for me to get down to the state she was in and see my newborn son for about 5 seconds before she became unconscious and unresponsive and she passed away the next morning. I recently lost my dad who also lived in a different state and unfortunately never came out to see his grandchildren. And I now have 6 children and I feel alone even though I'm not I love my kids and I think what hurts the most is that they never got to see the magical woman that my mom was. But know that your parents are always with you they are always in your heart they're always watching you and if your parents are anything like mine my mom still plays practical jokes on me

Swin-dell. If you look at the date on the headstone, you will see that his dad passed just a few months after the phone call. From what I have been told, the visit to the cemetery was Cole's first visit ... and they filmed it for the video. Pretty sure the "jacked" guy, was Kenny Chesney.

I remember the last night of my father's life. We were all told this will be our last chance. At the time I was 34 years old. I rushed to his side I curled up on the bed with him like I did when I 9. He told me he loved me and he was proud of the man I had become. I did not shed a tear or so I could be strong for him and his last day. I thought it was my job to stand tall and strong. But once the 21-gun salute had fired that I began to sob like that 9 year old son. I have not cry daddy since or until today until this simple reaction put me back in that place. I know it sounds cliche people but tomorrow's not promised. Now some twenty years later I've come to find his fate is mine, and I pray I I am a good enough man to be remembered the same.

Don't know if mentioned yet, but Cole was Luke Bryan's merch guy for awhile, so they were friends before 'the fame'. I haven't seen the video in a while, but if I remember most of the black/white elements are things that's happened since his father died. The cemetery was the first time he'd been back since then, so all that was real emotion as well.

In this video you got a little insight in to how supportive country superstars are of up and coming artists, which is always inspiring to see as a fan. I honestly don't know how it compares to professional, and no doubt personal as well, relationships in other genres but a supportive atmosphere has been consistent over the years in country music.

The last words he ever spoke to me were "I'm proud of you, son." My mom passed 5 years ago this coming April. She and I were very close. This song in my anthem to them both almost daily. I get choked up thinking of that night listening to cole sing this song while my friends are holding me and crying along with me, the love and support I felt and the deep connection cole and I have with this song it was an amazing powerful moment I will never forget. 2 years ago I got married and so bad I wanted my dad to be there to see it. Like many of the folks who have already shared their stories, this song resonates with me as well. My Dad died 30 years ago this April. He was a much loved teacher and coach and every year since his death, we have held a golf outing to raise money for a scholarship endowed in his name. I watch his family, friends, and former students gathering together for a good cause and I am always struck by the thought that he should be here - playing a round of golf, drinking a few beers, and sharing a lifetime of memories with those he loved.
