I’ve decided to buy Coleman Hughes’ book for having to put with these arrogant, race-baiting old ladies on the View. Good job to Coleman for keeping cool while under fire.

As a white man, I applaud this man for his views and for standing his ground. I 100% agree with him. A poor white family in America deserves as much help as a poor black family in America. Neither one is less important than the other.

Sunny Hostin unwittingly made HIS point when she name-dropped knowing a famous person. THIS is exactly why he said Socio-economic differences are a better indicator of who needs the most help. She evoked the good-old-boy network of "it's not WHAT you know but WHO you know!" that counts.

IDK who bro is but his ability to not only stay composed but also not get side tracked and stay on topic when ol girl was trying to hard to bring him down is a testament to his character. Stud.

It's amazing how ANYONE of color who THINKS independently and NOT how "the party" (democrats) wants them to "think" is co-opted. THAT is racism. It doesn't matter what your race is. You are an INDIVIDUAL capable of making YOUR own decision. PERIOD.

#1 I’m super-impressed with the calm, analytical way that Coleman Hughes lays out his arguments, listening and responding without letting his emotions get the best of him. #2 respect to The View for giving out copies of his book so the audience can read it and “judge for themselves”, even though they may not agree with his argument.

This man dismantled these ideological captured women in such a calm and classy manner. Good job.

I was one of Coleman's very first couple of thousand followers...he's a very impressive young chap.

A textbook example of “cool under fire.” Bravo, Mr. Hughes! And extra credit for pointing out the “ad hominem” attacks for what they are. An “ad hominem” argument doesn’t address the other person’s argument, but instead attacks that person’s character. Saying, for example, “He’s wrong, because he cheats on his wife.”

They were so condescending to him. Whoopi telling him he was too young to have an opinion on this. Sunny telling him he was being called a “charlatan” and haplessly used by conservatives. That kind of smug, passive aggressive character assassination is appalling.

Coleman Hughes is 1000% right. Sunny reveals herself to be someone who is obsessed with identity and subsequently an implicit racist. She went after Coleman's identity, when only his ideas should matter. Thats all you need to know.

They really underestimated how brilliant Coleman is… I’d like to see them get through 1 semester at Columbia as a philosophy major, or 1 semester at Juilliard as a jazz performance major. They think he can be intimidated because he’s young…not so

I love when Sunny said "I know Dr. King's daughter" and he was like "yeah, okay" He was not impressed. Mr. Hughes was so calm and mature on that stage. He treated the women with respect while being put down. What an amazing young man!

One philosophy to live by: "Treat other people like you want to be treated". That would solve soooo many unnecessary conflicts.

I am 63. I experienced segregation until 3rd grade. Over the next decades slowly but surely race relations improved dramatically I was trying to figure out in my head when things changed for the worse again. I thought Obama presidency improved race relations. Coleman said 2013 - Social media. That’s it. 40 year progression undone by a putting a focus back on color . So sad for our children.

It’s a shame a guy has to write an entire book around a concept that is basically just common sense.

It is so satisfying to see Coleman Hughes deconstruct Sunny Hostin's "victimization" narrative in such a polite and respectful way after she questioned him in a rude manner with a hostile tone in her voice. She owes him an apology.

I have never heard of Coleman Hughes before, but I must say that I am impressed. I do agree with his assertions and I find his eloquence refreshing. His approach to poverty and race is spot on; you address the issue and if a certain race is a majority suffering from that issue it will be addressed in a fair and organic matter. I am not sure who that contrarian lady is and at this point I feel zero reason to find out.

In a battle of wits, the View was unarmed.

Colman gave a master class to everyone and showed a viewing audience what an objective conversation sounds like. He stuck to his argument in a calm demeanor, addressed everyone with his talking points and counter their talking points in a respectful tone. I hope who ever watched this sees how to explain their own points of view without turning ugly or going off topic. The more I see and hear from Mr. Hughes the more impressed I am that intelligence, logic and civility still exists.

Who is this legend? He just single handedly demolished The View's "gang up" tactic.

I appreciated Whoopie’s measured approach here. She met Coleman where he was at and wisely didn’t attack his logic. Unlike Sunny, who should’ve pulled back when it was clear he was talking the most sense and is obviously less biased and more informed on this topic than she is.

ABC needs to cancel The View, and give Coleman Hughes his own show.

I'm a bit taken aback at Whoopi's statement about how things were "when we went to school". This would have been exactly when I went to school in NYC. in the 1960's and 70's. This was also the time of the Black Arts Movement which highlighted some of the most powerful black voices of the time. People like Amiri Baraka, Ntozake Shange , James Baldwin, Nikki Giovanni, Sonia Sanchez, Audre Lorde, Gil Scot Herron, and many more, all of which I was introduced to in HIGH SCHOOL ,junior and senior grades! NYC schools at that time, were filled with young progressive teachers who wanted to expose kids in areas like the South Bronx where I went to school, to more black writers. The idea was to widen the narrow Euro-western classics track, and in turn present stories written by writers who presented a similar cultural experience. Not that the classics were not relatable. These were kids living in areas that are now referred to as "underserved" , or the Ghettos of America. Coleman is a brilliant young man, and I agree 100% that it is time to move forward away from making color the central focus of our lives.

I had no idea "The View" was such a home front problem. We are Americans together, let's live like it.

I respect Coleman Hughes. One of the things that bugs me about Sunny is how she thinks she speaks for ALL black people and how if you're a black person who does not think exactly like her, you are a traitor or an Uncle Tom or whatever. While this is an on going battle that takes all of us to get through together, where I draw the line is when Sunny starts talking as if she knows every black person in this country. I'm a black man, I don't need Sunny to speak for me. I can take care of and speak up for myself. I appreciate Sunny for continuing to call out injustices to our people when that happens. However, Sunny has a problem and that is believing that she is speaking on behalf of all black people. As a black man, while I believe there are some ideas and values that all black people must keep, I also believe that you cannot enforce that feeling down someone's throat.

The are basically calling Coleman Hughes an Uncle Tom by saying he has been co-opted by the right. Very classy.

It's obvious, Sunny Hostin is still heavily on painkillers. The divisive thoughts that Hostin continues to regurgitate, is so out of context, fundamentally flawed, and truly makes her look ridiculously ignorant. When she tried citing Martin Luther King Jr., her interpretation of Dr. King's work, was absolutely inaccurate and sadly, incorrect, and Hughes tried to point that out, but Hostin would never shut up and allow Hughes the opportunity to respond. Sunny is certainly an educated woman, but unfortunately, she decided to abandon facts for feelings, when she started working on "The View!"

It was funny watching Sunny make the equivalent argument of “I know the manager” like it has ever worked.

It's safe to assume that Mr. Hughes will NEVER be a guest on the view anytime soon. All the hosts of the view, mostly Sunny, failed to make him look like he was being used by people that do not want want an intelligent man. I have to give Mr. Hughes credit for disarming the racist views of the hosts. That is something that is rarely done! Kudos to Mr. Hughes!

How is this controversial? Helping the financially disadvantaged already disproportionately helps black and brown Americans. It’s an effective way to help those communities without insulting them by insinuating “You need help because you’re black or Hispanic.”
