I've been playing with kerosene lanterns since my grandfather gave me his father's Dietz from the late 1800's. I have 5 Coleman white gas lanterns and a Coleman dual fuel (gasoline and white gas). I enjoy playing with the kerosene lanterns and my Dietz Jupiters can last nonstop for 3 days. However, they can't hold a candle to the brightness of the Coleman gas lanterns 😏

I absolutely love those old Dietz lanterns.They were so simple and gave out a mild decent light. Built to last too!

My preference depends on need. Overall I prefer the white gas (naphtha) burners but the newer Coleman LED lanterns are great if you have young children or grandchildren around the campsite.

I like propane lanterns: convenient, bright, same vibe as white gas but without the initial huge flame, pumping and pressurized gasoline cons...

Good point! It is the most convenient one out of a traditional lantern. 🏮

The naphtha fueled lantern , with light and burn when it is too cold for propane to work .

I would put the LED Coleman lantern in last place. I owned the red Coleman 4D Battery pack lantern in the pack, which holds the batteries eventually broke after just a couple years. The LED clear plastic light housing is cheap and scratches easily, which eventually just looks terrible.

This one that I have has a lithum battery that you recharge by plugging in. It's a great little lantern, but over time, not my favourite. I have to say, that the various gas lanterns I have, I do like better.

You can pretty much buy it at any hardware or outdoors store. Coleman's brand doesn't call it "white gas" it's called Coleman Camp Fuel. If you google it, you'll find multiple places you can purchase from in your specific area.

What is Naptha? I have never heard of that before.

It's a type camping fuel use on lanterns and stoves more so used on older products. You can google it, but here's a rundown: Naphtha (/ˈnæpθə/ or /ˈnæfθə/) is a flammable liquid hydrocarbon mixture. Generally, it is a fraction of crude oil, but it can also be produced from natural gas condensates, petroleum distillates, and the fractional distillation of coal tar and peat. In some industries and regions, the name naphtha refers to crude oil or refined petroleum products such as kerosene or diesel fuel.

It's typically referred to as white gas or "coleman fuel" that is sold by the gallon at walmart etc. It's great stuff
