I couldn't watch it. I looove Colin Farrell in anything but I only survived 20 minutes. It was too gross. I think the concept was probably good but I couldn't get past being constantly uncomfortable.

In my estimation, the film portrays an organized, clean, developed, yet extremely rigid society on moral and behavioral standards. The existence of an autocratic state isn't clearly perceived. The oppressive system is diluted, in the film, in the figure of manipulative bureaucrats, who act inside a hotel as omnipotent deities. Such leaders are always willing to reward and applaud the most obedient and severely punish anyone who violates the imposed rules. In order to control the destinies of society and to ensure the perpetuation of the dominant power, personal relationships are cold, psychologically and physically violent, and therefore disturbing and frightening.

the interviewer's dehumanising excitement/thirst and sexual objectification is makes this pretty uncomfortable. act like a peer and don't create such an artificial and gross power dynamic for god's sake; you're supposed to be a journalist

"The blackest Irishmen I've ever seen." What kind of fucking statement is that?
@gloverelaxis6 жыл бұрын
I assume she purely meant hair colour, given the conversational context. But yeah, terrible choice of words.
@tomandlucy1006 жыл бұрын
The term “black Irish” is commonly used to describe people of Irish origin who have dark features, black hair, a dark complexion and dark eyes. Irish here means *ethnically Irish*, not a citizen of Ireland, which could be all kinds of ethnicity/race. "Black" here refers to hair/eyes, not skin colour. This is based on people normally assume ethnically Irish people to have lighter skin, and typically ginger hair. However, black Irish is actually the population that settled in Ireland earlier than those population with ginger hair or green eyes.

The Lobster is a horrific movie. Far beyond a dark comedy. Forcing someone to put his hand in a toaster. Kick killing his brother who is a dog. I would never have this director as a friend. He's sociopathic. Eastwood's Beguiled was clear chronologically.
