That being said I have found IG not the place that it used to be and have been spending much less time on it. I hope a good alternative to photo sharing appears.

A common pattern with my videos is that they ALWAYS perform better on KZfaq shorts than on Instagram. KZfaq pushes my content to a wider audience, and you can tell the algorithm is really testing different viewers throughout like a 1 week period from posting. While on Instagram, the first 24-48hrs are when the algorithm decides if it's promoting your content or not, and it just dies after that. But my content doesn't reach most of my followers on Instagram, which is very confusing and a common experience from what I've heard. It's a bit of a frustrating process when content performs so differently in different platforms, since it makes you constantly question what actually is effective and worth your time.

Wow, my experience has been the EXACT opposite. Instagram shows my content to a huge audience, for literally MONTHS on out after posting. Meanwhile KZfaq never blows anything up unless it's immediately a hit. The only short I've gotten to "blow up" is one that reached 10K views in the first 12h, after which it _randomly_ just decided to cut me off (curve randomly flatlines)
@HeadbangersKitchen
@HeadbangersKitchen Ай бұрын
Mine is the opposite. My stuff BLOWS UP on Instagram and goes nowhere on KZfaq. Like on Instagram my reels get over 20-30k views minimum and some have gone in the over 100k range and 2 of them over million views. Not a single video on KZfaq has even come close, most are under 5k and now the recent ones are reaching 10k.

the answer on creator monetization was SO bad and you guys just kind of smiled and nodded. Adam literally said "tell me I'm wrong" Really wish you guys would prepare even the slightest critical questions for your interviews. Usually you end up just affirming everything the guest says. Your audience is full of creators, and you have a chance to stand up for us.

I think you should also pull your weight too. If you think the answer is bad, you should not only explain why you think it was bad but also what you would want to see the solution as. If you can communicate these, I think that's a huge positive for all sides of this equation.

Totally agree! My biggest problem with instagram is they treat creator payouts so poorly. Even TikTok which is a way younger social media app has a monetization system in place. Instagram has been around for years and they still have no plan on paying out their creators even though they are heavily shifting to maximizing revenue on the app. Letting the excuse of an answer for creator monetization slide so easily is disappointing since they’re in a unique position to speak for many creators
@MeganClaarke

I was internally screaming while listening to this answer. Sure, someone else will make content regardless of being paid but the whole point is revenue sharing - not spend money to make money. It's showing appreciation and respect for the time and effort creators put in to keep their show running. 🤦‍♀ I'm not a regular viewer of this channel, but perhaps the interviewers we're too shocked by his blatant disregard to know what to follow-up with. Until this point, I was really enjoying Adam's insights.

Colin and Samir do a great job interviewing guests, thats it. This channel is not to confront people about the things they might be doing wrong or question them on their decisions, that only brings drama and unnecessary intimidation for the guest. This is only to talk, a conversation, to connect creators. I don’t think Colin and Samir would benefit from confronting a guest about their answer, their interview would become sour if they did. Of course they can do it respectfully but now is not the time to bring that pressure.

You guys should do a TikTok vs IG comparison video. TikTok Live is better than IG Live. TikTok comments section is better. Reposting and watermarking (crediting) is better. Then of course the recommendations algorithm is better. None of these things are new to IG but TikTok has somehow jumped way ahead and for some reason IG feels so stagnant. TikTok sucks at notifications though lol for some reason.

you should have pushed back for the average creator. instagram followers don’t matter. i gain over 40,000 followers on insta due to viral reels but nowadays when i post something i spent hours editing on… it’ll get 200 views. why? because if a certain person didn’t press the like button instagram just stops the video. i’ll wait days and the view count is 210 and i just delete the video and go back to editing again or filming. literally most of the comments on the guys insta page are people saying bring back old instagram. i definitely recommend watching the PATREON CEO and his speech on SXSW about the death of follower count because followers DO NOT MATTER!!! the algorithm is horrible

Not a bad listen, but I think Colin and Samir didn't reaaaally ask the hardest questions, and Adam limbo'd under a lot of the answers. Adam saying it's up to him to regulate his kids on the platform HE MADE is a hell of a cop out. Fundamentally Instagram is a platform that's changed from a place to follow friends, to a place to be sold stranger's experiences and ads. You have smaller creators hating the platform, you have artists leaving the platform for Cara because Meta just announced they own all imagery on Instagram, you have a ton of AI aspects being forced on the user base.

But he’s right that the platform can’t decide for every person what counts as motivational or harmful content. I started working out in high school because I saw Chris Pratt, the kinda shlubby guy on Parks and Rec get a six pack for Guardians of the Galaxy and went, oh if he can do it, I can do that too. But then you have other situations where certain people might find that triggering to their anorexia. How is the program supposed to know or moderate between that if that’s different between individuals? Parents cannot offload complete responsibility to these platforms, especially when the platforms are limited from collecting that kind of information since it falls under health data.

Instagram grew popular by intentionally NOT having ads (making it feel like connecting with friends), during this time Instagram borrowed (a f**k ton of) money to allow growth with the intention of eventually selling itself to payback the investors and to make money for the creators. Whoever purchased Instagram would have so with the intention of making it profitable eventually, Facebook purchased it and slowly integrated and ramped up Ads. This is the same for every platform built with this method of initial funding/growth. If a new cool platform started with lots of Ads, no one would use it and it wouldn't grow/take off to the size required to be successful.

The elephant in the room has to be engagement based on negativity though I suppose it is somewhat outside of the scope of a channel like this to explore. Adam kept mentioning “ connecting friends and short form videos”. I think there is a huge caveat in comparing long form videos, short form videos and connecting friends. For example, short form videos works fantastic for connecting friends if you have ones to begin with. If you have a great friend to share things with short form content works great because you both (ideally) are interested in the topic of the short video. That said, we might not have become a part of a thing or fans of it. It might be oh cool trick or whatever. However, for long form video, I feel it has a lot more potential for community building to your point. I know this has been brought up in your interviews before of people walking up to content creators like they personally know them! I don’t know if that would happen to a content on Instagram. I might follow someone on Instagram, absolutely. But I wouldn’t “know them” as well as I would if I am following them on KZfaq!

would love if instagram gave more info on our audience and followers. On youtube we can see what subs are searching for, who they watch, what they like. On instagram its hard to know what your followers really want. even if you do a poll, you are only polling the small percent who watched that story.

He literally said likes and followers don’t matter, only shares, then how do you suppose to get shared if the algorithm doesn’t reach to the followers, the potential followers, the targeted audience? Don’t like it anymore, they make it harder for small creators/businesses. I have Over 2k followers, stories get sometimes more than 300 views, but pictures or reels posted, barely 20 likes.

Y’all need to push big names like this more, and respectfully don’t take the sidestepping. You’re big enough to do this, as well as good enough to. Next step after that is leading the conversation based on what creators are seeking (truly). You can see it in the comments. Instagram continues to take 100% of what’s available off creators backs. This didn’t help the community in any way, it didn’t hurt, but it was a pointless interview.

“About 50% of content is viewed with sound off”. A lot of people crazily like like like like umpteen posts on accounts - and we see this in Stories when people will screenshot this like it’s something to be super proud of. I’m suggesting they’ve got the sound off while hyper doing this. Tell me I’m wrong Mr Mosseri?

Look Instagram is a platform for reach to grow your business model. This is why it’s important to have a business model and not do Instagram for revenue share, same with KZfaq it’s the business model. The upside to high engagement and reach is sponsorship & ad share. His made it clear, they are trying to create a sustained model. Knowing business I respect his answer.

As of March 14th of this year I became an official KZfaqr and as of April 27th I left Instagram. It is so hard to make money on both of them at the same time. And I don’t want to divide my energy. It’s great for selling products yet I am not selling any products or services.

I wish I could hide most short form content in KZfaq and even a lot of it on Instagram. So many dark holes of scrolling to waste my day. It just all feels so toxic. I’d much rather watch long form content like this than 100+ reels.

I don't think this guy understands that I use Instagram primarily to keep up with friends I don't want to see reels all over my home tab. I get that most people aren't like me, but all of these reels popping up just feel like an infinite bombardment of ads to me.

Just use facebook? I think this is the distinction between the two. IG was never created for content to only be shared with a friendship group, but with people who want to view, follow & engage with your content. The whole concept by which it connects users focuses more on mutual values, interests and data analytics as opposed to people you happened to be in nearby vicinity and became friends with by chance, which are most of your friends on facebook, if you think about it. They’re people you spent time together with in life- peers, acquaintances, co-workers - but not necessarily people with whom you share mutual interests, hobbies, values. The concept of the two apps/websites is different and ultimately serves different needs.
