@koitorob
@koitorob 3 жыл бұрын
Actually Colin, they were as inaccurate 'back then' as they are now. The builders were just as embarrased when they missed things and, because it so often upset the king so much that he'd have the operator's head chopped orf, they decided it would be safer (for them) if they aimed at larger targets. Such as castles... That's the real reason why they became known as a siege weapon, purely because it allowed those charged with aiming them living longer because they didn't miss their target. Not a lotta people know that!

If you let the wheels move freely, it would through further. The load is going in a rotational ark. If the base could rock back and forth. the load would effectively drop vertically which is more efficient = longer range.

A well resourced engineering program. This system has the advantage of simplicity, and is also safe compared to using pulleys/tensioned cables etc. It would be tempting to recommend a hydraulic ram and a simple ramp for height/distance using some digger components. A few cattle mats would make a cheap shock absorber for surplus k.e., I would have included that to protect the structure, and clearly a cage would be good to stop the drop weight smashing into the diagonal frame members as appeared to happen there, though I see the initial failure was a dislocation caused by the bearing breakage.

colin with the wheels on that trebucet you dont need a swinging bucket weight you can use a solid fixed weight. the type of weight you have used was for larger fixed trebuchets buit at the siege. however another type had wheels. so what the bucket weight does is allow the weight to fall in a straight line for as long as possible and then whip the arm. the wheels accomplish the same function on a fixed weight

Aerodynamics do not really matter much when the projectile is of this size. Just by looking, you wouldnt see the difference between an engine block or a sphere of the same weight. With meassurements it is of course, but it is a negligible difference. AND moreover, we are waching Colin Furse here, and what is more epic, a canonball or a flying car???
@Ghirahim3
@Ghirahim3 3 жыл бұрын
I mean, why not both. Also a cannon ball is going to go through stuff a lot better than a car will (the car'll just fall apart all things considered). Plus this is supposed to be medieval and cars were a hard ammunition type to find for your siege weapons. I mean motorcycles were everywhere, but cars hadn't quite taken off (Very bad pun intented).
