Collaboration changed the game for my teaching! The only thing is we meet and plan / print / strategize nearly every day. This is probably a little bit because we’re chatty but also because we all literally do the same thing day in and day out. The concept of an agenda feels like extra work to me, but could give us more structure so we don’t have to meet every day. This definitely got me thinking! Thanks for sharing your great ideas as always!!

YES! When done effectively, collaboration makes your life as a teacher SO MUCH EASIER! I know exactly what you mean... if I were meeting every day, I probably wouldn't create an agenda. But, maybe you could create a "weekly" agenda with a list of things to accomplish by the end of the week? Or even a monthly agenda? Hopefully you can find a system that works for you! Thanks for watching and commenting 🖤

We have used the teacher favorite survey in Tip 3! Our staff loved it. We'll be updating it this year with new staff and updated preferences. We have a printed notebook and then one of the teachers turned it into a PDF file. It's awesome! People feel seen and appreciated.

Perfect! Perfect! This video came at the right time. We just had a few changes within our Team and within our department. This gives us some ideas on how to engage and create a comfortable environment. It can be tough when everyone is simply stuck in their way because it’s been that way for such a long time. Thanks so much for the tips! Great suggestions. We want everyone to feel welcome.

The school I worked at had a school wide google sheet that showed the results of a survey sent out that asked about favorites and things. It was easy to access anytime you wanted to give a little gift or something!

Super helpful tips here! My team has been different every year for the past five years, so this video and the freebies are so beneficial for working together and being as productive as possible. I loved your point about sharing what you can, even if you are new to a grade level or school. All teachers have valuable insights to share that might be just the right strategy to help certain students succeed. I loved the bonus clips, too. Thanks for a great video!

Aww, thank you so much Mandy! I'm with you... I had a different team every single year of teaching LOL! That certainly makes it harder to collaborate because you have to learn about each other first and then find a system that works for your team. But, I hope this was helpful for you! Thank you for watching and commenting as always! 🖤

I love my small school, but sometimes I wish k had other grade level teachers to work with. We do mostly vertical planning when we get together since we are all singletons. Thanks for your videos.

Ahhh yes! That's definitely a downside of working at a small school, BUT vertical planning is FANTASTIC! Is there another school nearby with teachers in the same grade level that you could collaborate with? Thanks for watching and commenting! 🖤

+Pocketful of Primary Michelle, I remember what you are describing with the cards that you used to stamp ( Cub Kudos ). Also, remember when you also used the clip chart with class dojo and you allowed the students to exchange dojo points for Panda Bucks as well? As much as that clip chart became some sort of a road map for a Project for such a time as this in My Life I am just speechless over what I saw in your vlogs because as much as I enjoyed you sharing your experiences watching them as an autistic stay at home son adult the whole thing quickens me to share this story with you. When I was a newborn diagnosed as autistic and defied death at a hospital the doctors at that hospital told My Parents what to do as in give me educational toys , etc . to play with and work with me in my educational growth or else I would stop learning growing up and to their dismay I wound up being the only one out of 3 boys in the immediate family to march with his Sr. Class in high school thanks to My Mother working with me in my education growing up and providing me educational tools. While My 1st through 3rd Grade Teachers had to learn the hard way that screaming at me and hitting me 3 times on the rear end with a paddle is not the answer and only made My Anxieties at school and really My being afraid of waking up and preparing the next school day worse the admins at the school systems in My Part of the country ( Bedford County Schools in Shelbyville, Tennessee ) support the teachers particularly when it comes to managing students. It seems to me that if you would have been My Teacher it would have helped me cope a bit easier for the fact that you would have helped me through some of those anxieties and worked with me more and in effect eased some of those anxieties. You would have done with me what My High School teachers did which is meeting in the middle with the school system only those moments would have come in My Early Elementary Years instead of me feeling overly homesick every normal school day and needing the students to help me through that and out of that every normal school day. Thank you for sharing your stories and tips. - Dwight

Perfect tips as always! Your tips work so well for any profession! In my current job I felt like the “lump on a pickle” or “shy guy”. I was afraid to suggest ideas because I was probably going to be shot down. I was in a 4 person team and the only male on my team. I was the sponge learning and observing and helping out as necessary! We had been a team for 8 years and I wouldn’t trade them for anything (we got along and made each others life easier). Just in the past 6 months through changes (1 terminated, and 2 others leaving), I was the only one left of my original team. I now have to rebuild and train a new coworker who has their own ideas and collaborating ideas with me and it has been working so far! Hoping it lasts😊

Aww, thank you so much Russell! I'm happy you were able to make these tips work for you in your career even though it's not teaching related. Hopefully you're able to continue to rebuild and form new connections with your new coworker! I'm happy it's working so far! I appreciate you watching and commenting as always 🖤

Hi Michelle, I’m a high school teacher and have to collaborate with two teams- 10th and 11th and I find working with my 10th grade team is incredibly difficult because of how big the team is and there are two seasoned teachers that seem to have polar opposite ideas all the time. I find myself often stuck in the middle but also lost with the vision of what 10th grade English should look and feel like. I guess what I’m saying is that I mostly listen and only speak up if I have to. My 11th grade experience is much better and I’m able to contribute so much more and take ownership of my ideas. I try giving myself grace but I really have a hard time being split across teams and working with multiple people on top of teaching :(

Hi Wendy, you could also see your 10th gade team polar opposites to be an advantage: you get to see the subject from different sides and then pick a side , or a happy medium, which fits your style best. I know it would be easier if everyone would compromise, but at least you shouldnt feel like you cant speak up. Approach it as if you have divorced parents, lol. Another tip: You say there is a big 10th grade group. Try to find a consensus with the other teachers who are not the seasoned teachers. You could still ask for their advice but you dont have to follow it. Best of luck

My team has a Google folder with information in it. We can't always meet and this helps. We only have one teacher per grade level though so my team is 5th-8th grade teachers.

I LOVE THIS! We always had a Google folder too and it was great for sharing resources! You could also create a shared drive for your team so you don't have to worry about any files disappearing if a team member leaves and their account is deleted! I shared about that here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mp6jqq13lp20fmg.html Thanks for watching and commenting Alyson! 🖤

I am working at a new school this year and I am one of two new members on the third grade team. I am finding that my teammates don’t acknowledge my questions or my contributions. I know we don’t need to be best friends but we do need to work together. What advice would you give about this?
@PocketfulofPrimary
@PocketfulofPrimary Жыл бұрын
That's a great question Monica! This unfortunately does happen, especially with new teams. I think communication is so important here... your teammates may not even realize how their words or actions are affecting you. I would suggest bringing it up during your next meeting in a productive way... maybe by saying something like, "I know it may not be on purpose but I've been feeling a little ignored during our meetings. I want to make sure I'm contributing to the team and I want to feel comfortable asking questions. Is there a way we make sure everyone feels important in our meetings?" It's absolutely a hard conversation to have, but it's so necessary to prevent tension and resentment. I've had many team meetings that ended with us all in tears because we were very honest with how we were feeling but it helped us become a stronger team. I wish you the best of luck!
