LIKE, SHARE, and SUBSCRIBE if you enjoyed the video and wish for more content in the future. Due to the many controversial topics surrounding late Ottoman history, any comment promoting racism, nationtionlism, and denialism against a particular historical event or nationality will be immediately removed and the commenter banned. This is a educational space, so naturally there will be some discourse in the comments, but once again, any comments that break my guidelines will get the hammer. I hope all of you guys understand my reasoning. Over the last couple of years we have built a large and diverse community here on this channel, and I would like for everyone to treat each other with respect and kindness. I would also like to take this time and give the peoples of Ukraine my condolences due to the recent war that broke out last week. Stay strong and be safe!

I feel like the Ottomans should have used the Arabs much more. The Arabs were 1/3 of the population. (Though Egypt, Syria, Maghreb and especially Iraq were massively underpopulated). Thus this huge portion of the population should be Conscripted into the Army. This would make the army far larger and they are Muslim, so it wouldn't upset the Ulama. And it would give the Arabs greater representation in the Empire, so they would be less likely to revolt. Beyond that, the Arab Region should have been developed more. If the Ottoman empire reunited today, Arabs would Make up more than half teh population. Egypt has great potential, as Muhammad Ali Pasha showed. Its large Navigable rivers makes it perfect for Watermills and industry. Iraq especially was severely underdeveloped, having less than 1 million people. But the Great Tigris and Euphrates are quite Navigable too, making it ideal for industry. With some Agricultural reforms, the population would greatly surge From there, over a million Arabs could be moved into the Strategic regions of the Balkans and Crimea. This large Muslim population in the region would Change the Demographics. Reducing the Christian Majority. Reducing the effectiveness of Nationalist revolts.

I think sometimes, one can get too myopic in regards to finding out the details of an empires' collapse, particularly when they misattribute a period of continuation and hidden success to be that of stagnation, or even decline (most of time people pointing the lack of expansion in comparison to periods decades, which is a bad indicator of success). Both the Ottomans and the Ayutthaya Kingdom fall into this misconception. For Ayutthaya, some historians say that post-1688 Ayutthaya was decline because the Europeans were kicked out from Siam, but this is viewed from the Eurocentric standpoint where one cannot objectively view/analyze a non-European nation, even nations with little European impact like Ayutthaya, without connecting it, in some way, to the more-familiar European/Western history.

I wonder why Selim III, a bright ruler indeed, did not make an alliance with the ayans himself. Like, they were a tolerable foundation for Ottoman bourgeoisie and probably did not care about aNcIeNt tRaDiTiOnS that much...

Depend on how you look at him. But remember on paper what his dealing was different especially in the Balkan. Ethnicity came with regilious and nationality taken different path. Especially if the people demanded more that will ultimately lead to separated entirely. Which will you how it end up. Just look as Austria Empire they also in the same spot. And their Empire agree to the demand everyone which finally. became very mess up. As for Russia well they been Russification with every ethics group. And the Tsar have the army and the cossack to in force them.
