I went over the handlebars of a push bike I'd just bought after my dog ran in front of me, Smiths of my left wrist. Full cast with palm facing the sky. I thought i had a trainee dr and a trainer doctor treating me, turns out the doctor training the other wasnt a doctor at all, he was the lowly plaster tech. Thanks to him I was able to decline surgery, everything was less then 1mm out of place... that was 20 years ago, wrist isnt perfect but has never caused me any problems and no arthritis. I hate to think how my wrist would have ended up if it was a actual doctor who did the manipulation. I can't recall how he had to pull my arm to get it right, only remeber it had to be done a specific way and he had to put some real muscle into it. Quite seriously the plaster tech guy was the best "doctor" i could been treated by despite his lack of any medical training beyond experience seeing bones broken all sorts of ways and having to put plaster on after the professionals had done their work. The actual doctor had no idea how a smiths needed to be treated to do it right. Boxers do smiths fractures, tripping and bracing falls causes the colle's. first night after i done it got up to do a pee, stood on a pillow and lost balance, had no arm to stop myself from going arse up, mrs woke from the thus to find me flat on my back next to the bed. Many people must do themselves serious injuries as a result of having such an initial injury, thankfully I didnt hurt myself, it could have easily even given my other arm a colles if circumstances were slightly different, but that thankfully was just lucky for me to not cause further injury.
