Collective Soul Shine guitar solo lesson and cover + TAB

This song is still awesome! And what a sweet solo it has. There are zero accurate tabs for this online, and i've yet to see a cover video that was totally there, so i went about trying to figure it out as spot-on as i could get it. very well explained...i really appreciate when someone points out the pentatonic scale..makes ot much easier to learn..also knowing that he improvs often live gives me the chance to have more fun with it when i perform.

You remind me alot of a band mate who really has it together upstairs when it comes to anything guitar. I've been around the guy for 9 years and he still continues to amaze me, I'm left standing there with PJ's yellowleadbeter solo as my biggest accomplishment...lol..and anything by sublime.

Decent vid for its age, gonna try n rewatch it daily till its memorized.. then work on my speed. Been playing for years but never could play lead, been learning theory and got a decent grasp.. now to work on my hands and not my brain. Thank you Ben, your talented and a funny guy 🤘🔥

This is the most effective video tutorial for this guitar solo. Very straight forward on how the solo is being played. Not the best quality for the video, but I like the classic way of writing the tab down on a paper.

Don't know how much you read all the comments but... I first learned about you when you did Josie. Im a working guitar player with a full time trucking job. I don't have the time to sit and scrutinize every song I need to learn for the band so I've turned to some "how to" videos on occasion. Your Josie video gave me what I needed to get to a workable approach to that song. This Shine video was the same. I don't have very much time to learn the songs on my own so this video has been very helpful. Thanks a bunch brother!

Thanks man! I know the isolated track you’re talking about… I have heard from a couple people it’s not from the record. It’s either a different take, or one someone made themselves and labeled it as the real thing.

Been playing for 20 years now on the dot.. never really cared when I first started for shredding or extensive solos I was a 14 yo grunge/post grunge freak still am but i really want/need to broaden my skill horizon and this speed playing is KILLING ME lol. I can play any rythym out there but my lord the solos and you make them look so damn easy 😅 same with your turn up the radio solo I watched it and was like alright let's do this. Yeah.... right 🤣 thank you for the thorough tutorial though time will prevail! Lots and lots of time lol. 🤘😄🤘

Well Split my Britches! Here's Uncle Ben before he was Uncle Ben, before he was shaving! I heard this song on the radio, figured out it was tuned E flat, with a drop D too, figured out the solo but wanted to see what some You Tubing Guitar Ace was doing it the same I was, and lo and behold my fave nephew Ben Eller, was just about doing what you were doing. My how you have grown Grasshopper, sounding good on the Andy Wood tunes.

I didn't realize the 6th string is not dropped for the solo. It was driving me nuts trying to figure out why it was sounding like ass when I was hitting the first 3 notes haha...

Hah nice, fun to hack on that, nice to see somebody get it right. Reminds me of Rik Emmett's triplets from Triumph songs like- lay it on the line , fight the good fight etc. Good work! Great tutorial. I’ve always done drop d as well and the start to that run always gave me fits. I’m playing this on an evh wolfgang so I can use the dtuna to drop Db during the song and push it to Eb for the solo then drop out do Db again.

Great job of teaching. Enjoyed the real close shots of the finger placement. If I can see it for sure, it's a done deal. Sometimes I'm just not quite sure. Example: Interstate Love Song. The teachers fingers seem to play a note, but I can't find it. Having the exact note makes the difference to me. Also, youtube teachers seem to improvise a little accationally.
