Bill says that he's been in the Nightmare realm for 100 times the life of our Universe. The Guardian created the Gems 10,000 years ago and has been waiting to retire for at least that long. The only thing we know about the Collector's age is that he's older than King, presumably billions of years depending on how long it took the Titan's gut bacteria to evolve into witches.

The show literally showed that he didn't know what death was though 💀 Remember that he's not a typical 8 year old..he was pretty much sheltered. I know kids around that age who were never told what death was. They were raised among immortal beings ofc they wouldn't understand mortality as a concept
