This is how all games should be umpired imo. 50/50 over analytical BS soft frees and most of the 50metre penalties are ruining the game, it was refreshing that they let the players play the game for the change. Only 24 combined frees were given this game, usually it's 40-50 per game which is ridiculous.

I was at this Preliim and it was the loudest roar I've ever heard. The stands were shaking, everyone and their dog was crying, strangers were walking arm in arm down the stairs crying, hugging, singing, laughing...best AFL match I have ever been to.

I was there in this Prelim.....I was also there in 2019 Prelim.......I know how both feel, I was crying after both.....but for different reasons. 2019 was utter heartbreak.......2023 was utter joy and relief. I am not a person that is usually confident, cocky or anything of the sort, I was so nervous leading up to the game, but when I heard the Giants themesong come on and heard the absolute chorus of boos.......all of a sudden I got this guy feeling and said right then and there "No......this time we are winning this, we are going to put them down in the ground today, we are going to avenge 2019 and make them feel the pain that we did that day, they won't even hear their fans, we will reign cheers on our fans." and we did, we belted out the team song and even though we only won by a single point, we did so well.

That being said, the umpires missed frees for both teams. Umpires (like players) are susceptible to having a bad night. That's footy, at the end of the day!

I'm a Collingwood supporter too but about comparing this to the FIFA World Cup: more popular ≠ better. Of course an English sport like soccer is far more popular than an Australian sport like Aussie Rules. The English invented modern spectator sports in general and soccer is a far more accessible game to play and was promoted around the world from the very beginning. Australian Rules was originally invented as a method to keep cricketers fit during the winter, it then turned into a local spectator sport later on. But at the end of the day, whether it's the AFL or the FIFA World Cup, it's merely just a game.

People can say whatever they want mate. You just don't have to take it to heart.

If that's the case, then most flags carry an asterisk (if they involve close matches). There has been incorrect umpiring throughout the game's history. There were many Collingwood frees missed in this game as well as GWS. Collingwood won the flag fair and square; the best team all season.

What are you on about. Are you such a simpleton that if Collingwood get there it's unwatchable no matter who else is there and what happens. Last year the only good thing about the finals series and all season was the Magpies. Geelong had it in the bag after round 15 last year. Pies were the only team to keep it interesting considering Sydney's thumping in the final. This year the pies never got out as far as Geelong did which kept it more interesting This season and then the pies played in 2 epic finals matches. You simply just don't love the sport if you can't appreciate the footy being played. Just a sour loser.
