What the video does not depict is that the cathedral was severely damaged during Word War II, with only a reinforcement of ordinary bricks preventing a partial collapse. This damage was not repaired until the 1990s.

The fact that for 300 hundred years it sat unfinished is insane, can you imagine the people of that time wondering if it ever will be completed, how fortunate we are

I think it almost did during the war - I may do one of Dresden soon as the changes are quite remarkable

Yes cranes have been around since way before that

Yes, they already had the crane in the 15th century and during the break of work for around 300 years the crane became a negative icon for the city of cologne. When they continued the work around 1840 the crane was still there! :D
