Something I completely forgot about with the right engine on the jet Cricri is that for aerobatic displays, there was a smoke fluid discharge into the efflux of the right engine for making a smoke trail. It was not in a position to harm the turbine wheel as the smoke fluid injection was well downstream from it.

It's a twin engine aircraft. You would hope it can fly pretty comfortably on one engine. Glad to see it does. The 'standard' version has been around since the mid '70s, with a pair of small 2-stroke engines, each throwing a prop about 12 ~ 14 inches. I was a kid back then, mad about flying, and I wanted one of these so bad. Sorry about the damage to your Right engine, I don't think you're going to be using that one again. Like the BeeDee Microjet, there are some risks and challenges with these micro aeroplanes, that you don't normally see. The aero-modelling people know more about 'planes on this scale...

@Kneedragon19624 ай бұрын
@@chrisnielsen9885~ This is true. Which suggests our manned aircraft powered by model aeroplane jets, actually has better & safer margins than the standard one. All be it the standard one is now going on 50 years old ~ The always & forever nightmare with twins, is being able to feather the prop of the engine which has failed. I go back to Eric Winkle Brown and the praise he lavished on the DH Hornet, and the subsequent fatal incidents with that aircraft when an engine failed but the prop-feather didn't work. I look at Howard Hughes and his near fatal accident. I look at the fatal incidents on P-38 Lightnings when control of one prop is lost and the aircraft rolls uncontrollably. I read about it in a novel, (The last dogfight) in the '70s, and then saw video of it happening at an airshow in real life. Lindberg possibly knew a thing or two when he decided on a single engine to fly the Atlantic. As a general guideline ~ two engines is NOT twice as safe as one. It does introduce more options and choices and complexity, but that's not always a good thing.

The word jet for this air aircraft is misleading. It's powered by twin, single cylinder piston engines with twin propellers. The pilot gets an "F". He shouldn't have never taking off. As soon as he put power to the engines to take off, you could see he had a problem. At about time 0:17 on the starboard side, you could see a trail of heavy smoke. He should have shut down that engine and proceeded off the runway. Instead this pilot continued to take off. Smoke still visible, he took off until the engine blew. Then it took him 7 minutes to land at a very small community airport where traffic is nill.
@3dartstudio0074 ай бұрын
If you look at some of the other videos from this channel, you'll see this Cri cri has been modified with two model jet engines. It's hard to read the screens of those controller monitors for the jets, but it's clear one of them had an unexpected failure.
@amiabledave504 ай бұрын
@@3dartstudio007 let's say you're right about the jet. The engine failure on the starboard side happened shortly after he throttled up. Plenty of time to abort the take off. Pilot still gets an "F"
@3dartstudio0074 ай бұрын
@@amiabledave50 Yea I saw that. I'm curious about the two modules on the dash that seem to monitor the jets. To me this is research and development of a new jet. It looks like they are doing test flights in a somewhat safe area. I'm also wondering about the right side engine smoke as it's the one that smokes intentionally for skywriting. I'm interested in seeing an electric quad (like the jetson1) that has VTOL with jet propulsion for distance and speed.
@sweeflyboy4 ай бұрын
Cri-Cri jets are a fairly well-known mod. Apparently the smoke was due to smoke fluid injection, which is intended to produce smoke for airshow use, etc. Not sure why it would be used here though.

That's around $9000 in whats now scrap metal.... 😳. That whining down sound is an over cooked turbine rubbing the housing. Should have aborted as soon as the smoke appeared. Problem with using too small a set of engines here is that you have to keep them at their max to stay aloft.
@NBx-th1rt5 ай бұрын
The problem is that he has no clue how turbine engines work.
@DARANGULAFILM5 ай бұрын
The GoPro camera has a much wider field-of-view than the human eye. The smoke in far right peripheral vision may not have been apparent. The pilot has every clue how turbines work. The TBO on Jetcat turbines is short. That one was shorter than most. The owner-builder-pilot is very thorough and I would be his passenger any day.
@saiello20614 ай бұрын
@@DARANGULAFILM It would have been caught even in peripheral vision. Blue smoke coming out of a jet engine on full thrust is cause to shut down IMMEDIATELY. Pilot fail.
@KingJellyfishII4 ай бұрын
Clearly the engines are not too small, as the aircraft can fly just fine on one engine.
@saiello20614 ай бұрын
@@KingJellyfishII Yeah, one is enough to keep it aloft, but can it practically take off on one engine? I very much doubt it. You need lots of power for a take off or you'll run out of runway. So it needs two engines. Full throttle.
