Exactly...ive been diving deep into salsa because of her. Im from philly...its something i always heard in the poppi stores and we would do our fake salsa dances and start making " poppi noises" ...but it always got us to move...now i respect it deeply

As Colombians we grew up listening to salsa. This is our heritage, one of the most important but many people don't think so. This channel makes me feel so proud about being Colombian, about being Latino. We have Salsa in our blood in our veins. And watching this girl enjoying salsa is the best part of the video. El bebé de Buenaventura murió porque tenía que hacer un viaje de 2 horas hasta Cali porque NO HAY HOSPITALES DECENTES EN BUENAVENTURA. El bebé de Cundinamarca igual, no hay plata para hospitales y si para armas? Ahora los comercios y los "saqueos" fueron casos aislados y se vió que la misma policía atacó el Motel La Luna y el Dollarcity en Cali. This is the difference between a professional DJ and an amateur: the selection to play is larger, better and more diversified. Not to say the discovering of tunes usually hidden behind the famous songs. That's the DJ contribution: the rescue of other songs and artists, their incorporation into the genre repertoire.

Very well said. If you were to ask for someone who isnt from Colombia to list a salsa song they may list a very popular and common one. But what this DJ did was play a song usually only colombians would recgonize. Truly digging into the culture that was formed within for decades upon decades

@@jacobygears2843 I'm Colombian, and a big salsa fan. The thing is, for the most part, you only listen to the most popular songs. This makes her work even more impressive, she's rescuing songs which weren't popular during their time and bringing them to a larger audience. As I said, I listen to salsa a lot and could only recognize 3 of the songs displayed here. However, I can recognize they're amazing songs, and they make me curious to explore new artists, forgotten by time. She's doing God's work, if there is one.

That's true, and it's such an essential and overlooked part of Latin culture, "alegria, alegria" like my abuela use to say, to talk about heartbreak, mourning, abandonment and slavery and dance in joy anyways. Dancing the pain away and expressing joy in a cruel world is an act of defiance.

Pro tip: if you're ever in NYC and into Asian chicks, take Salsa/Cumbia/Bachata classes. There are surprisingly *a lot* of Asian girls that take Salsa classes and move like Latinas it's insane. If you're shy it's the best place to break out of your shell. You don't even have to ask a girl, the girls will ask YOU to be their dance partner because the ratio is literally 3-4 guys to every 10 girls. That's been true for every class I took for the last couple of years. Too bad pandemic cancelled all those :(

@@dazgreen Anyone who can share this kind of music, is OK with me. @Jay, I cannot answer for sure but in my experience, people who are mad about music don’t have a lot left for furniture and obviously the records take up a lot of space. Plants are a cheap and cheerful decoration (I have a lot myself).

this reminds me of my summer in ecuador. so many friendly people made all the more beautiful by the smiles on their faces. spent so much time outside because the sunshine calls out to you. lived in a small apartment with 3 other girls and had a party or at least friends over a couple times a week. everyone there knew how to dance. damn i miss that.
