When I visited Bogota for a few months I also had my phone stolen. And I also ran after the guy, along with a group of locals who didn’t know me at all. He tried to pretend like he didn’t have it but one of the locals almost beat the thief up, demanding he return it, and I did get my phone back…. Bogotá is like that. But like you said, most Colombians are remarkably friendly and chatty people. :) I hope you got to go to Montserrat eventually, it’s gorgeous!

Bogota, like any other big city, has its crime. I lived there for almost 4 years and during that time I had a few encounters with some unsavory people. But there are a lot more friendly and beautiful people than bad. I even married a beautiful woman from Bogota. Hopefully you do get to go up to Monserrate, it has a great view of the city. Con lo del robo muy valiente salir a perseguir a los ladrones y afortunadamente no pasó a hechos que lamentar. Es lamentable que Algunas grandes Capitales del Mundo enfrenten ese tipo de delitos. Con lo que Colombia es un país pobre se podria abrir un gran debate ya que técnicamente Colombia es un país muy rico por sus recursos naturales, unos de los paises más biodiversos del planeta, cuenta con dos mares, una cantidad inimaginable de fuentes hídricas, una geografía en la que los pisos térmicos le permite tener en muy poco tiempo de recorrido nieves andinas hasta playas paradisíacas; o selva amazónica; el café más importante y premiado del mundo, un destino que tiene la fortuna de ser uno de los que tienen las mayores cantidades de aves del planeta, entre muchas otras riquezas sin embargo el tesoro más importante de nuestro país es su gente, personas que amamos nuestra tierra, personas que se caracterizan por ofrecerte su habitación principal si vienes de visita, que como dice el dicho "donde comen dos comen tres" un país que el riesgo verdadero es que te quieras quedar. I've been to Bogota twice within the last 6 months, and actually plan to live there in about a year from now. Never go to Mt. Monserrate on the weekend, especially after payday. 3 hr. wait to get up, and 3 hr. wait to get back down. Having said that, it is breath taking up there, with a really nice restaurant. Went to the museum also. I'm not very into art, but it was a great experience. I find the Colombian food to be very fresh and so good. I haven't gotten anything stolen yet, but am often reminded by my friend to be careful with my things. I think many places here in the US can be just as dangerous. Just be aware of the people around you, and avoid walking around at night. Ubers are cheap and I find them to be safer than I feel in a regular taxi. Bottom line, I love Bogota, and can't wait to go back in 5 months.

Glad you're all ok and you managed to recover the phone but it wasn't worth it. Sure you saw the red mist and the caffeine and adrenaline kicked in but he could've had a knife or worse or as you described easily been run over in pursuit. So sorry this happened to you and Mink ! You've demonstrated extraordinary chivalry Luke ! One can't help to think that the caffeine infusion at the coffee bar gave you the needed adrenaline boost . Sounded like a scene from "Jason Bourne " Hope your injuries aren't too serious as it'll take a day or two after the incident to really assess them - post shock . Also , hope you consider leaving the country to avoid any "revenge attack" . Another story to share on your future travels that fortunately had a positive outcome - " you lived to tell about it " and recovered Mink's phone for which I'm sure she's forever grateful .

this area where you are just before the cut about the robbery, is only 1 block from 10th avenue, which is a very hectic and busy comercial area... pickpockets and mobile phone snatches are common in places like that. sorry to hear you experience this and that nothing serious really happened.

I'm a lover of colombian coastal food, even though I'm limited to enjoy much of the rest of food from other regions since I'm not fond of grains and beans which is the main heart of Andean food. One thing they excel is the chicharron which is amazing. Many people see me as a rare thing when I ask for a bandeja paisa without beans, luckily in many places they serve that dish with a bowl of red beans not mixed with the rest of the plate so I can spare them (I only like chick peas, white kidney beans and in less extent lentils. It's a personal taste that few people shares with me anyway....

I have seen on Instagram stories about this event,but i was waiting until this proper video about Colombia to listen again to what happened,yes it is awful as i come to remember.I remembered when i have seen on IG stories i was a bit more scared rather than on this video.Anyways horrible experience apart from that food and people are great.Still there isnt pleasant experience, especially if you have to travel there back again. Coffee methods were so intricate and might be the best highlight of video and coconut soup as well.Still i think maybe Thai coconut soup might be better one. Museum was wonderful,kinda unique Colombian style.I would act the same and actually would run for thief,it really doesnt matter the country😅plus if some valuable of closed family member has been lost in that moment,totally action would be exactly the same:run for it and trying to get it back.Great video to show everything in real motion about how dangerous and how friendly at the same time it could be.

Never one to comment over the years; glad you got through that with minimal damage. Always have your guide or security in some places because local thugs will sniff out an unaccompanied target in seconds. Happens quite a bit in my country and the thieves are often coordinated with handovers of stolen goods.

I wouldn’t allow that one man, to damper your spirits or thoughts on Colombia. Unfortunately, Colombia has always had major issues with pickpockets, that wont be going anywhere, more vigilance in the future i suppose. On another note, im not sure how far in advance you’re filmed, but you must check out Salento, a beautiful town known for its coffee and of course the Amazonas. Safe travels.
